13 February 2023

The 2022 NFL season is now over, and it ended with one of the best Super Bowl games in recent memory. Even though there are still over 200 days before the next official NFL game, you can expect to see the NFL in the news continuously during the offseason.
The NFL is a league that never seems to rest, and teams throughout the league are always trying to find a way to prepare for the next season. Here is a look back at the Super Bowl and another big news story that will impact the 2023 season.
Chiefs Win Super Bowl Again
The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions yet again, as they came away with a 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. It was a short field goal from Harrison Butker with eight seconds remaining that set the final score, but this game was full of drama and excitement.
The Philadelphia Eagles took a 24-14 lead into the locker room at halftime, but the Chiefs stormed back in a big way. Kansas City scored on every offensive possession in the second half and took their first lead of the game in the fourth quarter.
Philadelphia came into this game as slight betting favorites over Kansas City, but both teams went 14-3 during the regular season. This was a game that was dominated by the offense, as there was just one defensive sack in the game.
This is now the second Super Bowl win for Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs, and Reid got the job done against his former team. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts set an NFL record by having three rushing touchdowns in the loss.
Mahomes Named Super Bowl MVP
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named Super Bowl MVP after leading his team to a comeback win. By earning the award, Mahomes became the first quarterback to earn both the regular season and Super Bowl MVP Award in the same season since 1999.
Mahomes came into the Super Bowl with a high ankle sprain, and he seemed to reinjure that ankle after being hit late in the second quarter. The quarterback was still able to lead the offense to 24 points in the second half and had a long run late in the game that put his team in a position to score.
Mahomes threw for 182 yards and had three touchdown passes in the win.
Colts Appear to Have New Coach
The Indianapolis Colts are in the market for a new head coach, but league sources have indicated that they could be close to making a hire soon. Indianapolis chose to wait until after the Super Bowl to make an announcement, and there might be a reason for that.
The Eagles are planning to hire Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen as their new head coach, but an official agreement has not been reached. Indianapolis has informed other candidates that they are going in a different direction, but reaching an agreement with Steichen still has to be done.
