NFL News: Saturday, February 4th, 2023

It’s the Pro Bowl weekend in the NFL, but this event continues to struggle to gain popularity with the fans. There are plenty of exciting events set to take place, but NFL fans continue to follow the news that is taking place outside of that game. 

Next week will be filled with Super Bowl news as the Chiefs and Eagles will be heading to the big game. Until that time, here are some of the biggest news stories from around the NFL that have come out in the last few days.

CPR Classes Coming to Super Bowl

There are always plenty of different events taking place in or around the Super Bowl, but most have something to do with football. That’s going to change a bit this year as the NFL has announced that there will be CPR classes for fans to attend. 

This comes in response to what happened earlier this season when Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field and needed to be revived. Hamlin was initially brought back to life by CPR, and he has been an advocate of learning and teaching life-saving measures. 

There will be CPR training stations set up throughout State Farm Stadium, and fans can get trained on hands-only CPR from medical professionals. The NFL is also raising money throughout the month of February, and that money will be given to the cause of trying to teach the importance of CPR in youth sports.

Charges Against Mixon Dismissed

Earlier this week, it appeared as if Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon was facing more legal trouble, but those charges have since been dismissed. The initial complaint accused Mixon of pointing a gun at a woman, and aggravated menacing was the charge. 

The victim agreed to dismiss the complaint, and prosecutors have acknowledged that more information and evidence are needed before moving forward with the case. It’s unclear if more evidence will be available, but Mixon is currently not facing any charges. 

The NFL is still going to be investigating this case as well, and the league could move forward and punish Mixon for a certain number of games next season. This isn’t the first time that Mixon has been in trouble with the law, and he was suspended for an entire season in college.

Concussions Way Up in 2022

The National Football League has announced some information on head injuries and concussions, and the data is extremely concerning. According to an official report from the league, concussions were up nearly 20 percent from a year ago, and that’s a trend that the league doesn’t want to see. 

During the regular season, there were 149 concussions suffered, but the league has made it clear that it has changed protocol when diagnosing concussions. The league has been fighting the concussion battle for years, and this new information is highly concerning. 

Concussions during practice did fall to just 25 total throughout the year. The league has new rules in place that limit hitting in practice, and it has also come out with a new padded helmet to protect against head injuries.
