NFL News: Monday, January 30

30 January 2023 By Cole Paganelli

The conference championship games have been played, and we now know the matchup that will take place in the Super Bowl. The Philadelphia Eagles will take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Arizona, and both teams were the top seeds in their respective conferences.

Philadelphia has opened up as a small favorite over Kansas City, but the odds are expected to move a ton in the next two weeks. This game will also give Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid a chance to coach against his former team.

There will be plenty of time to study and analyze this matchup over the next two weeks, and there are other news stories to focus on. Here are three of the biggest news stories that are out there for the rest of the teams in the league.

Packers Looking to Move On

This is the second straight offseason where there appears to be some serious drama brewing between the Green Bay Packers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers and the Packers failed to make the playoffs this season, and that has created even more tension between the two parties.

Rodgers comes with a massive price tag, and the Packers might be unwilling to pay it for the veteran. According to league sources, the Packers are wanting to move on from Rodgers and give the job to quarterback Jordan Love.

Trading Rodgers is going to be the best option for the Packers, and there will be some suitors. This is a news story that will be worth following, and it could end up having a huge impact on the NFL standings next year.

Moore Not Returning in Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys are making a change at the offensive coordinator position as Kellen Moore will not return. The Cowboys announced that it was a mutual decision between Moore and the Cowboys, but head coach Mike McCarthy clearly wanted to make a change.

Moore has been the offensive coordinator in Dallas for the last four years, and he put the Cowboys in the top 10 in total offense three different times. Postseason success hasn’t come for the Cowboys, though, and that has McCarthy looking to make a change.

Head coach Mike McCarthy could choose to start calling plays moving forward, but an official decision has not been made.

Fangio Hired By Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins were looking for a new defensive coordinator, but they are no longer in the market for one. Miami has announced that they are hiring Vic Fangio, and the veteran coach has had a ton of success on the defensive side of the ball.

Fangio was fired in December 2021 by the Denver Broncos after going just 19-30 in three seasons. Fangio’s teams were still solid on the defensive side of the football, but they just weren’t able to score any points during that time.

Head coach Mike McDaniels has been looking for a veteran coach to join his staff, and this is now the third former head coach to be hired by Miami.
