NFL News: Monday, February 6th, 2023

06 February 2023 By Tyler Vaysman

We are still a week away from the Super Bowl, but the National Football League is not taking a backseat to other leagues when it comes to being in the news. The Pro Bowl took place this past weekend, but that was only a small part of what was going on throughout the league.

Teams are doing all that they can to prepare for the upcoming season, and several franchises have already made coaching hires for next season. There are also some other interesting news stories from around the league, and here are the biggest from the past week.

NFL Players Love Flag Football

It has been pretty clear that the Pro Bowl Game has become stale, and the NFL has been working on a number of different options to make it more popular. It seems as if the NFL has finally figured something out with the flag football game that was played on Sunday, as it proved to be wildly successful.

NFL players were able to take the field at the Pro Bowl without any pads on, and the offenses were able to shine. There were still some interesting collisions that took place during the game, but this Pro Bowl proved to be successful in terms of entertainment value.

The NFL has been changing up the format of the Pro Bowl over the last few years, but the comments from the players during the 2022 event might keep this format for a while.

Panthers Hire New Defensive Coordinator

The Carolina Panthers have had a busy offseason, and they recently announced another move that will impact the team heading into next season. Frank Reich has been chosen as the new head coach, but the team was also looking for a new defensive coordinator.

Carolina announced that Ejiro Evero has been hired as the new defensive coordinator, and that takes one of the biggest names off of the list. Evero spent last season with the Denver Broncos, and he was also a candidate for a numbobs around the league.

The Panthers are looking to make a major shift in the direction of their franchise after firing Matt Rhule during the year. New Broncos head coach Sean Payton allowed Evero to interview for new jobs, and he was ultimately hired by Carolina.

Cowboys Get New Play Caller

The Dallas Cowboys were one of the best teams in the NFL during the 2022 season, but they once again came up short in the playoffs. Head coach Mike McCarthy had some decisions to make at the end of the year, and one of those decisions was to fire offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

The Cowboys have now found their new offensive coordinator as they announced the hiring of Brian Schottenheimer. Owner Jerry Jones has said that McCarthy will be calling the plays in 2023, but the team was still looking for an offensive coordinator.

Dallas is expected to bring back much of the offensive talent from a season ago, but a new approach could end up paying dividends for the team.
