NFL News: Monday, February 27th, 2023

We have reached the time of the year in which things tend to slow down in the NFL as teams and players are gearing up for the start of free agency. Teams are still working in the background to try and improve their rosters, but there won’t be any big deals made until the middle of March. 

That doesn’t mean that there haven’t been any NFL news stories to come out over the last few days, as there is always something going on. Here are the biggest news stories surrounding the NFL as the calendar is set to flip to March.

Wilson Denies Nasty Reports

The Seattle Seahawks made a shocking move at the end of last season by sending quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos in a trade. It became evident that Wilson was not happy in Seattle, and some recent reports show just how bad that relationship got. 

According to a report, Wilson asked the team to fire head coach Pete Carroll back in February 2022 and wanted Sean Payton to be brought in as head coach. Wilson was quick to deny the reports when they came out, but it was clear that there was plenty of dysfunction in that relationship. 

The quarterback called Carroll a “father figure,” and his lawyer said that a defamation lawsuit could potentially be filed. Seattle received a huge haul back from the Broncos and ended up making the playoffs a season ago. 

This report also detailed a tumultuous first season in Denver for Wilson, as there were several disagreements between himself and his teammates.

Nagy Back in Charge of Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have a new offensive coordinator, but it’s a man that has been in that role before. Eric Bieniemy left the Chiefs to pursue a job with the Washington Commanders, and it created an opening in one of the most desirable spots in the league. 

Matt Nagy was promoted back to offensive coordinator, a role that he served back in 2016 and 2017 with the Chiefs. Alex Smith was the quarterback for the Chiefs during those two years, but Nagy does have experience in working with Patrick Mahomes.

Nagy re-joined the Chiefs organization after a miserable tenure as head coach of the Chicago Bears. He did post a 34-31 overall record in Chicago, but his teams always seemed to come up short in the biggest games.

Jones Speaks About NFL Dangers

Byron Jones, Miami Dolphins cornerback, took to social media this past weekend to discuss the dangers of playing in the NFL. According to Jones, he is unable to run or jump due to the number of significant injuries that he has suffered in the league. 

The 30-year-old missed the entire 2022 season with a torn Achilles tendon, and he indicated that he is not set to retire from the league at this time. He also warned others about taking pills or injections that NFL teams offer to players. 

Jones is a former first-round draft pick by the Dallas Cowboys and made the Pro Bowl team in 2018.
