New York Yankees at New York Mets Betting Preview/Player Prop

The New York Yankees and New York Mets have one of the best rivalries in baseball, even though the teams only meet up for a handful of games each season. These two teams will wrap up a series on Sunday night in a game that will have national attention.

The Yankees are still holding on to a Wild Card spot in the American League, but this has turned into a very tight race. New York was able to snap a long losing streak on Saturday, and they will be looking to start a winning streak on Sunday.

In the National League, the Mets have a ton of work to do if they are going to find a way to reach the playoffs. This team was leading the NL East for much of the season, but the wheels have started to fall off over the last few months.

The New York Yankees are the betting favorites at -115 for this game. 

Yankees Need More Offense

This New York Yankees team is hard to figure out, especially when it comes to the offense. The Yankees have a lineup that is filled with talent, but they just always seem to come up short when they need more hitting. 

Aaron Judge leads the Yankees with 32 home runs and 79 RBIs, and he has been the one consistent threat for this team all season long. The acquisition of Anthony Rizzo gave this team a spark in July, but that has worn off in recent weeks. 

The Yankees have some injury concerns on the pitching staff, and they aren’t going to have a normal starter going in this game. If the visitors are going to win this game, then it will have to come from the offense. 

Pitching Must Lead Mets

The New York Mets need their pitching staff to set the tone, but that could be a problem in this matchup on Sunday night. Carlos Carrasco takes the mound, and he is just 1-2 with a 5.88 ERA so far this season for New York.

Pete Alonso has been great at the plate for the Mets, leading the team with 32 home runs and 85 RBIs. Francisco Lindor and Javier Baez have not provided as much offense as expected for the Mets, and that has been a big issue.

The Mets can’t afford to get into a high-scoring affair with the Yankees on Sunday night as they just don’t have the offense to keep up.

Yankees Win Second in a Row

The Yankees broke out on offense on Saturday, and that momentum should carry over into Sunday. The Mets are sending a struggling pitcher to the mound, and that could make for a very long night for the home team. 

This should be the most competitive game of the series as each team is desperate to pick up a win. Look for one big hit late in the game to be the difference, and the Yankees have an offense that is much easier to trust.

Francisco Lindor (-225) Over 0.5 Hits

While his overall stats might not suggest it, Lindor’s presence in the lineup has been critical to the Mets success this year. When he went on the IL with an oblique strain in July, New York went in a tailspin for the next five weeks. Over that span, the Mets dropped from first place in the NL East to 61-63 and totally out of the playoff picture.

Since Lindor’s return on August 24, New York has at least stabilized and finds itself just 4 games out of the second NL wild card position heading into tonight’s game.

The former All-Star shortstop still has a sense for the dramatic as well as the hit his 14^th HR on Friday night against the Yankees to  spark the Mets to a 10-3 win.

In front of a national TV audience and the final game of the Subway Series, we’ll take Lindor (-225) to put aside his offensive troubles in the spotlight and collect at least one hit.
