New York Mets at New York Yankees Betting Preview
04 July 2021

The Mets come into Sunday with an overall record of 42-36, and they have played much better than expected this season. New York holds a three-game lead in the NL East, but things are starting to tighten up a bit.
On the other side of town, the Yankees have been one of the most disappointing teams in baseball this season. The Yankees are just 41-40 on the season, and they currently sit in 4th place in the tough AL East Division.
Pitching Powering Mets Run
The Mets have a team ERA of just 3.33 this season, which is the fourth-best mark in Major League Baseball. Most of this work has come from the starting rotation, but the Mets also have a bullpen that can protect a lead.
Marcus Stroman is expected to start on Sunday afternoon, and he is just 6-6, but sports an impressive 2.45 ERA. Stroman is facing a lineup that is searching for answers, and this could be another strong performance.
Pete Alonso leads the Mets with 13 home runs and 40 RBIs, but he is really the only major power threat in the lineup. New York will have to find a way to score more runs if they want to stay atop the NL East.
Yankees Offense Falling Flat
The New York Yankees have a feared offensive lineup on paper, but opposing pitchers have not had much trouble shutting them down this season. The Yankees have scored just 329 runs this season, and only five teams in baseball are worse than that.
Aaron Judge leads the team with a .284 batting average to go along with 19 home runs and 43 RBIs. Judge remains a constant threat in this lineup, but he just hasn’t gotten enough help as the season has gone one.
Gerrit Cole takes the ball for New York on Sunday, and he is 8-4 with a 2.66 ERA. If the Yankees aren’t going to score many runs in this matchup, then Cole might need to pitch all seven innings to deliver a victory.
Yankees Win DH Opener
The Yankees need to win a game, and beating their hated rival could spur them on a big run to get back in the divisional race. Don’t expect much scoring in this game, as it is just seven innings long.
Marcus Stroman has really pitched well this season, but he is also prone to giving up some long balls. That is what the Yankees do best, and that is how the Yankees will score on Sunday afternoon.
Look for Gerrit Cole to deliver a dominating performance on Sunday as the Yankees take Game 1 of the doubleheader over the Mets. Bet the Yankees -1.0 over the Mets in this matchup.
