New York Jets at Cleveland Browns Betting Preview/Prop Picks

Dunkel Ratings: NY Jets 123.556; Cleveland 126.461
Dunkel Line & Total: Cleveland by 3; 37
Vegas Line & Total: Cleveland by 6; 40
Dunkel Pick: NY Jets (+6); Under

The New York Jets were beaten easily by the Baltimore Ravens last week. Although it wasn’t a great showing for QB Joe Flacco, he’s been named the starter for this game.

They face the Cleveland Browns, a stout running team with a capable quarterback. After scoring only nine points last week, the Jets look to bounce back in Week 2.

The Cleveland Browns played a tough game against the Carolina Panthers to open the season. Winning the game 26-24 with a last-minute field goal was a pretty impressive start.

It’s no secret that the Browns are the favorites in this game, as they should be. The question is can they cover the spread in front of them? If not, is it better to pick the New York Jets on the road?

New York Jets: The struggles continue in New York

It doesn’t seem as if there’s much light at the end of the tunnel for the New York Jets. Although we’re only a week into the season, there weren’t many positives from Week 1.

Joe Flacco threw the ball 59 times, which is a ridiculous expectation for him. On those 59 passes, he had 37 completions for 309 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

With only 83 yards rushing, it’s clear the Jets want to focus on passing the ball. Although not a bad idea, they should try to open the passing game up by running first.

Defensively, the Jets were pretty awful, allowing 10 points in the first half and 14 in the second. The good news is there’s really only one player for the Jets to worry about when they face Cleveland, Nick Chubb.

Cleveland Browns: Feeding Nick Chubb worked yet again

The Browns came out in Week 1 and dialed up a strong drive to add seven points. Behind Nick Chubb, who put up 141 yards, the Browns as a team had 217 rushing yards.

Averaging 6.4 yards a carry, Chubb is the driving force behind this offense. Starting QB Jacoby Brissett had a good game as well, going 18-34 with 147 yards and a touchdown. It wasn’t flashy, but it worked.

The game against the Panthers was a close one, only decided by a last-minute field goal. In Week 2, they come into the game as 6.5-point favorites, a large spread to cover.

They held the Panthers to just 261 total yards, but they still scored 24 points. When it comes to covering spreads, the Browns aren’t off to a good start. So, who should you choose in this game?

New York Jets at Cleveland Browns Betting Pick

The New York Jets failed to cover the spread when they played Lamar Jackson and the Ravens. The difference there is that the Ravens have several different ways to score.

The Browns have Nick Chubb, who the Jets will focus on slowing down. Although it’s very likely that the Browns win this game, we’ll actually go with the Jets against the spread.

The Jets have a strong record against the spread when playing the Browns. Over their last eight meetings, New York is 6-2 against the spread. They’re also 4-2 against the spread when playing the Browns on the road.

Prop Picks

Cleveland (-115) UNDER 23.5 Points

Cleveland averaged 20.5 points per game last season on offense, which ranked No. 20 in the NFL. That average decreased to 18.9 points per game at home. Scores have gone UNDER in five of the Browns’ last six home games.

With Dunkel predicting a Cleveland win by the score of 20-17, take the Browns (-115) to finish UNDER their Vegas team total of 23.5 points against the Jets.

Joe Flacco (-125) UNDER 233.5 Passing Yards

New York averaged 208.3 passing yards per game last season on offense, which ranked No. 20 in the NFL. That averaged decreased to 170.9 yards per game on the road.

With Dunkel predicting the final score staying UNDER the Vegas point total, take Flacco (-125) to finish UNDER 233.5 passing yards versus the Browns.
