New York Giants at Washington Football Team Betting Preview/Player Prop

16 September 2021

Week 2 of the 2021 NFL season kicks off on Thursday Night Football with a matchup between the New York Giants and Washington Football Team. Both teams are looking for their first win of the season after suffering a loss in Week 1.

New York was at home in the season opener for a matchup with the Denver Broncos, but it was not a good game for the Giants. The Giants have beaten Washington five straight teams and are looking to continue that dominance on Thursday.

Washington is the defending champion of the NFC East Division, and they are expected to be in the mix again. The Washington Football Team suffered a close loss in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers but are back home in Week 2.

The Washington Football Team is a 3.5-point betting favorite over the New York Giants on Thursday night.

Barkley Needs to Lead Giants

Saquon Barkley is still listed as questionable for this game on Thursday night, but he is expected to at least suit up and play. His return to the Giants' offense would make a big difference as he is one of the best players in the league.

New York was able to rack up 267 yards in the passing game in the Week 1 loss, and the return of Barkley could help that total out even more. The Giants are going to give up some points, and they will need their offense to take charge.

The defense gave up 429 total offensive yards in the loss to the Broncos, and that is a major cause for concern. Facing a backup quarterback in Week 2 will help, but this team has to get some stops.

WFT Can Defend

Washington is going to struggle to score on Thursday night, but this is one of the better defensive teams in the NFL. This team held an explosive Los Angeles Chargers team to just 20 points in Week 1, and it could put up another low number in this game.

The defensive line in Washington can really get after the quarterback, but it also allowed just 90 rushing yards in the season opener. This could come into play on Thursday night if the Giants are looking to set Saquon Barkley loose.

Taylor Heinecke will be under center for Washington after Ryan Fitzpatrick went down with an injury. Washington will be looking to run the football a ton in this game in order to move the football.

Giants Get TNF Win

Don't expect a ton of offense in this game, but that style of play benefits the New York Giants in this matchup. Washington does have the ability to put up some points, but they will be doing it without their starting quarterback.

Washington is going to need a dominant performance from that defensive line, but even that might not be enough on Thursday night. Look for Saquon Barkley to break loose on some big runs in this matchup, and his ability to run the football will be the biggest key in this game.

Bet the New York Giants over the Washington Football Team on Thursday night as they pick up an impressive NFC East Division victory.

Player Prop

Daniel Jones (-205) Under 1.5 TD Passes

There have been questions in New York ever since the Giants took Jones with the No. 6 pick in the 2019 draft. Physically, he has all the tools at 6-fot-5 and 221 pounds. But his play on the field – 40 turnovers in 28 games and just 11 TD passes in 14 starts in 2020 – hasn’t lived up to expectations yet.

The Giants have tried to give Jones more options on offense with Kenny Golladay at WR and drafting multi-purpose Kadarius Toney out of Florida. They also signed tight end Kyle Rudolph and have Saquon Barkley back from a knee injry.

While those moves may help Jones down the road, they didn’t pay immediate dividends in Week 1. The New York offense managed just 13 points at home against the Broncos and Jones committed a key turnover in the red zone when the Giants still had a chance to mount a comeback.

Playing on the road against a Washington defense that will be looking to step up its performance following a loss to the Chargers, we’ll take Jones (-205) to stay under 1.5 TD passes tonight.
