New Jersey Devils at Carolina Hurricanes Betting Preview

10 January 2023 By Cole Paganelli

Tuesday night is a big day in NHL action, and there is a massive showdown set to take place in the Metropolitan Division. The Carolina Hurricanes are set to host the New Jersey Devils, and these are the two best teams in that division.

New Jersey has been a massive surprise during the 2022-23 NHL season as they come into this game with 53 points on the year. The Devils do have to find a way to get past the Hurricanes, as they are 0-2 so far against their division rival.

The Carolina Hurricanes were expected to lead the Metropolitan Division, and that is what has taken place to begin the year. Carolina is coming into this game on a three-game losing streak, and they will be looking to get things turned around.

The Carolina Hurricanes are the moneyline betting favorites at -155 over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night.

Devils Delivering on Offense

The New Jersey Devils have played well on both ends of the ice this season, but it has been their offense that has been the most impressive. New Jersey comes into this game scoring 3.4 goals per game, and they are scoring on the power play nearly 21 percent of the time.

Jack Hughes has been the best offensive talent for the Devils, as he leads the team with 26 goals and 49 total points. Jesper Bratt is once again a force on offense, as he has a team-high 25 assists.

Goaltender Vitek Vanecek is having a huge season in the blue paint as well, as he has gone 15-5-2 up to this point. New Jersey is a solid defensive team, allowing just 2.63 goals per game.

Carolina Struggling to Get Stops

The Carolina Hurricanes are a team that is allowing just 2.65 goals against this season, but that hasn't been what has taken place of late. Carolina has allowed at least four goals in every game during this three-game losing streak.

The penalty kill for Carolina has been slipping up of late as well, but they are still killing off 80 percent of their penalties. Special teams play is going to be key in this matchup as they are facing a talented Devils team.

Martin Necas leads the Hurricanes with 38 points this season, but there are plenty of talented weapons on this team. Even if Carolina struggles on defense, they are good enough to get those goals right back.

Hurricanes Hold On For Win

Both teams have enough talent on offense to have a big night, but they both want to defend as well. This is going to be a game in which scoring goals is not easy, and one big play could end up being the difference.

Playing at home is going to provide the Hurricanes with a significant boost, especially when it comes down to the third period. New Jersey is going to keep this game close once again, but Carolina just continues to find a way to beat the Devils.

Bet the Carolina Hurricanes -155 as they find a way to get enough goals to sneak past their division rival in this game.
