New England Patriots at Minnesota Vikings Betting Preview

23 November 2022 By Tyler Vaysman

With an overall record of 6-4, not many are paying attention to the New England Patriots. However, after winning three straight games, perhaps they should.

The Patriots have won twice against the New York Jets and once against the Indianapolis Colts. Now, in Week 12, they'll set their eyes on an NFC North opponent, the Minnesota Vikings.

The Minnesota Vikings went on a seven-game winning streak before losing. The problem is, they lost in an embarrassing fashion to the Dallas Cowboys.

After losing 40-3, the Vikings are looking to bounce back this week. They're facing another tough defensive team, so they'll need to pull out all the stops this Thursday. Let's take a look at each team and make our pick.

New England Patriots: Patriots' defense is the key to a win

Over the last two games, the Patriots have allowed just three points in each game. Their offense isn't known for being too potent, but they scored 26 points against the Colts.

Prior to their win over the Colts, they beat the Jets 22-17 as well. This season, the Patriots' offense is putting up 21.3 points per game. Although it's not too high, it's not as bad as other teams in the NFL.

Where the Patriots truly excel is on the defensive side of the ball. They have the second-best defense in the NFL in terms of points allowed. By only allowing 16.9 points per game, they can help their offense relax a bit.

Expect a lot of different blitz patterns from the Patriots in order to get to Vikings' QB Kirk Cousins. Whether it works will be a completely different story.

Minnesota Vikings: Injuries are a concern for the Vikings

There are several defensive players that could be sidelined for the Vikings. One of these players is linebacker Za'Darius Smith, who was listed as "questionable."

Along with Smith are CB Andrew Booth Jr. and Akayleb Evans. Perhaps the most notable player that is potentially sidelined is DT Dalvin Tomlinson. This means they'll be without one of their most notable run-stuffers.

Kirk Cousins took a lot of shots in last week's loss, and they'll need to protect him better. This team is known for its offense, which averages 22.9 points per game.

On Thursday, they'll need to establish the run early to take pressure off of Cousins. This is going to be a tough game for the Vikings, so they'll need to be at their best.

New England Patriots vs. Minnesota Vikings Betting Pick

A few things separate the New England Patriots from the Minnesota Vikings. The Patriots' offense has been a problem in previous games.

Not long ago, they lost to another NFC North team, the Chicago Bears. If Chicago was able to score 33 points against them, so should the Vikings.

The problem for Minnesota is we've yet to see them really bounce back from a loss. Last week was an awful game, so we'll see how well this team responds. Still, they have the better offense and a long history of winning close games this season.
