Baylor ended the regular season in a bit of a slump, but this team has figured it out in the NCAA Tournament. The Bears blasted the Houston Cougars in the semifinal game in what was a near-perfect performance.
Gonzaga has won every game but two by double-digits this season, and it just speaks to their dominance. The Bulldogs needed overtime to get past UCLA in the Final Four in what was a game for the ages.
The Gonzaga Bulldogs are 4.5-point favorites over the Baylor Bears.
Baylor Must Make Shots
Baylor is shooting better than 41 percent from the three-point line this season, and they have the ability to light it up in a hurry. Jared Butler leads the way for this team with 18 points per game, but Baylor is loaded with talent at the guard position.
The Bears do have an advantage on the defensive end of the floor, and they put relentless pressure on opponents. Baylor is a bit smaller than Gonzaga, but they will look to speed this game up in an attempt to take control.
If Baylor is able to shoot the ball well on Monday night, then they could be the team cutting down the nets.
Gonzaga Must Defend
The Gonzaga Bulldogs have been doing everything right all season long, but they really struggled on the defensive end of the floor against UCLA. The Bulldogs allowed the Bruins to shoot nearly 60 percent from the floor, and that could be an issue on Monday.
Jalen Suggs hit the game-winning shot on Saturday night, and he has the ability to take over a game for Gonzaga. Suggs will be facing plenty of pressure all night, but the freshman has proven that he is ready for anything.
Drew Timme and Corey Kispert will likely need to combine for at least 40 points on Monday night for Gonzaga to win. This is not out of the question, especially if Kispert is hitting his shots from the three-point line.
Bulldogs Blow Out Baylor
UCLA had a great chance to knock off Gonzaga on Saturday night, but all that really did was refocus Gonzaga for this showdown. Baylor has had a great 2020-21 season, but they just aren’t at the level of Gonzaga.
The Baylor Bears have the ability to put up points in a hurry, but Gonzaga will be able to match that on their end of the floor. This should be a high-scoring affair, and that plays right into the hands of the Gonzaga Bulldogs.
No team has been able to find a way to end Gonzaga’s run this season, and it’s not happening on Monday night either. Bet the Gonzaga Bulldogs -4.5 over the Baylor Bears in the NCAA National title game on Monday night in Indianapolis.
