NBA News: Tuesday, March 21st, 2023

It’s been a busy last few days around the NBA, and there have been some big news stories that have developed. Fans are keeping a close eye on the playoff races in each conference, but that isn’t the only exciting thing going on in the league. 

NBA insiders continue to reveal some big news stories, and some of those stories are going to impact what takes place over the next few weeks. Here is a look at three of the biggest NBA news stories that have emerged.

Magic Johnson Looking to Buy Commanders

NBA Hall of Fame point guard Earvin “Magic” Johnson has joined a group that is looking to buy the Washington Commanders of the NFL. Johnson is working with a group that is being led by Josh Harris, and they will be putting in a bid to buy the team. 

This isn’t the first time that Johnson and Harris have worked together to try and land an NFL franchise, but the first attempt failed. That group was looking to buy the Denver Broncos last summer but was ultimately outbid.

Johnson is part owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and he has helped transform that franchise in a perennial title contender. Harris already owns the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils, and both franchises have been successful. 

It’s unclear when the final sale price is going to be announced, but the NFL owners are currently meeting next week. This sale is expected to attract several big buyers, including Tilman Fertitta, who is the current owner of the Houston Rockets.

Lakers Expecting LeBron to Return

The Los Angeles Lakers are trying to make a push into the playoffs this season, and they might be getting a significant boost to those chances. Head coach Darvin Ham recently spoke to the media and announced that he expects LeBron James to return at some point this season. 

James suffered a tendon injury in his right foot three weeks ago, and not many updates have been provided since that time. There are just three weeks remaining in the regular season, and James is expected to return at some point this season. 

The Lakers have been able to win six of the 11 games without James since his injury, and that run has got them back into a playoff position in the Western Conference.

Sabonis, Embiid Named POTW Again

The most recent NBA Player of the Week Award announcement looked very similar to the one that was posted just one week earlier. That’s because the NBA didn’t have to change much, as the two winners were the exact same players. 

Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings was once again the winner in the Western Conference, and Joel Embiid took home the crown in the Eastern Conference. The two big men are two of the most skilled players in the NBA, and they have been putting up monster numbers of late. 

Embiid has scored at least 30 points in nine straight games, and that is a franchise record with the 76ers. Sabonis led the Kings to a 3-1 record last week to move them into the number two spot in the Western Conference standings.
