NBA News: Tuesday, April 4th, 2023

The NCAA Men’s basketball tournament has been attracting plenty of attention from basketball fans, but the NBA action hasn’t slowed down. In fact, this is the best time of year for the NBA as well as teams are trying to make one final playoff push. 

Fortunately, there haven’t been any big stories of player injuries of late, but there has been some interesting things going on. Here is a look at three of the biggest NBA news stories that have taken place over the last few days.

Wiggins Could Rejoin Warriors

The Golden State Warriors have been getting healthy over the last few weeks, but they have continued to be without Andrew Wiggins. That could change soon, as sources have indicated that Wiggins could be making his return this week.

The Warriors have been without Wiggins for 22 straight games as the All-Star guard was dealing with a family issue. The Warriors haven’t provided many updates during his absence, and Wiggins hasn’t been heard from.

Golden State initially said that there was no timetable for the return of Wiggins, but they had hoped to get him back at some point this season. Head coach Steve Kerr provided an update to the media and said that his star guard has continued to work out during his time off. 

Golden State locked up Wiggins on a four-year contract extension after winning the NBA title a season ago.

Blazers Pull Off Historic Upset

The Portland Trail Blazers made NBA history on Sunday in their win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Portland entered the game as a 19.5-point underdog, making it the biggest upset in the NBA in more than three decades. 

It’s been a rough month for the Portland Trail Blazers, as they went into the game having lost 11 of their last 12. Portland was also playing this game without four starters as they are starting to shut things down for the season. 

Minnesota looked to be cruising to an easy victory as they built up a 12-point lead in the second half. Shaedon Sharpe took advantage of his opportunity on Sunday as he led the way with 27 points. 

The San Antonio Spurs were also pulling off a big upset on Sunday as they stunned the Kings as 16-point underdogs.

Drummond Dealing With Mental Health Issues

The Chicago Bulls are trying to clinch a spot in the play-in tournament in the Eastern Conference, and they were without a key piece for a game last week. Backup center Andre Drummond missed a game as he wanted to take some time away to clear his head. 

Drummond did return to the team after a one-game absence, and he addressed the mental health struggles that he has been dealing with. The Bulls supported Drummond during his absence, and that helped to get him back on the floor.

Several NBA stars have addressed mental health issues over the last few seasons, and Drummond shared some of his story on social media. Drummond is in his first season with the Bulls but has already completed ten full seasons in the league.
