NBA News: Sunday, February 5th, 2023

05 February 2023 By Ryan Knuppel

It was an interesting week throughout the NBA, and it was one that saw plenty of action. There were some big news stories that came from the NBA over the past few days, and several teams will be impacted over the next few games at least.

The Trade Deadline is approaching just as fast as the All-Star Game, and that always creates plenty of drama. Here is a look at three of the biggest news stories surrounding the NBA over the past few days.

Warriors Dealt Another Blow

It has been a rough season for the Golden State Warriors, as they have been dealing with a ton of adversity. Just when it appeared that they were starting to get healthy again, the team could be without their biggest star yet again.

Stephen Curry was forced to leave the game on Saturday night after he collided with a member of the Dallas Mavericks. The team ruled Curry out with a left knee injury, and the Warriors are now keeping their fingers crossed that there wasn’t a major injury suffered.

Curry will undergo an MRI to diagnose the issue, but the star point guard was clearly in a significant amount of pain after the collision. The Warriors went just 6-5 earlier this season when Curry was forced to miss 11 games with a shoulder injury.

NBA Hands Out Suspensions

The NBA has been dealing with a ton of suspensions of late, as it seems that players are starting to run low on patience. There were two fights on the floor last week, but one turned into a much bigger scrum than the other.

The biggest scrum occurred in a game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Orlando Magic, and several players ended up getting involved. Mo Bamba of the Magic was suspended four games for his role, and Austin Rivers of the Timberwolves received a three-game ban.

Rivers and Bamba continued to argue in the tunnel after being removed from the court, and they continued it on social media.

Irving Requests Trade

After failing to reach a contract extension with the Brooklyn Nets, Kyrie Irving has officially requested a trade ahead of the deadline. Brooklyn will now be looking to find a suitable trade partner or be willing to risk Irving walking away in free agency.

This news sent shockwaves throughout the league as the Nets have been one of the best teams in the NBA so far this season and were looking like a title contender. Irving missed the next game following the trade request with calf soreness, and league sources believe that he is planning to sit out the remainder of the season if he is not traded.

Brooklyn will also have to deal with Kevin Durant after this request, as he is not likely to want to remain with the Nets without another star. There will be very few teams in the NBA that aren’t interested in Irving, and they will be calling about the chances of landing Durant as well.
