NBA News: Sunday, February 19th, 2023

It's All-Star Weekend in the NBA, and there are plenty of events going on to keep the basketball fans interested. Even though this is a weekend without any games, that doesn't mean that teams are taking the entire weekend off. 

The NBA has taken center stage now that the NFL season is over, and there have been some big stories that have come out over the last few days. Here is a look at three stories that are making the headlines throughout the league.

Love, Cavaliers Reach Buyout Agreement

According to league sources, Kevin Love's time with the Cleveland Cavaliers is officially coming to an end. Earlier this week, it was reported that Love was requesting a contract buyout, and a deal has apparently been reached. 

Love has not been a part of the Cavaliers' rotation over the past 12 games, and he requested the opportunity to join a contender for another playoff push. The forward has spent the last nine seasons with the Cavaliers, and he is the last remaining player from the 2016 championship team. 

Love will be free to meet with other teams in the league, and the Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers are expected to be the top contenders. As long as he is on the roster by March 1st, he will be eligible to play in the NBA Playoffs for whatever team he chooses. 

Love has seen his skills diminish in recent years, but he was still putting up solid numbers a season ago when he was getting regular time. The Cavaliers have also announced that they plan to retire the jersey of Kevin Love. 

NBA Needs New CBA

There are a number of pressing issues facing the NBA at this time, and many of the issues aren't going to be fixed anytime soon. Commissioner Adam Silver believes that a new CBA is needed, and that same sentiment has been shared by the NBPA as well. 

Both sides also agree that it's important to come to an agreement before March 31st, as that is when the two sides can mutually opt-out. There should be some progress made in the coming weeks as the NBPA just elected new officers. 

Adam Silver did speak to reporters about the topic of load management and made it clear that he is not willing to discuss that topic. 

Loaded 2023 Hall of Fame Class of Finalists

The 2023 Basketball Hall of Fame Class hasn't been announced yet, but it is shaping up to be one of the best in recent memory. Finalists have been named, and there are some NBA legends that are going to be up for consideration. 

The two biggest names in the Hall of Fame Class are Dirk Nowitzki and Dwayne Wade, and both players should be among the group that is selected. Both Nowitzki and Wade are former NBA champions and competed against each other in the NBA finals. 

Gregg Popovich and Pau Gasol are the other two big names that were announced as finalists, but this class could end up including others as well.
