NBA News: Monday, March 13th, 2023

This is a big weekend for the sport of college basketball, as the brackets for the NCAA Tournament will be revealed on Sunday evening. That will take away some of the focus from the NBA, but that league is still going to be on the mind of some.

It’s been a busy few days in the NBA, and there have been some significant developments that have been announced. Here is a look at three of the biggest NBA news stories from the last few days.

Wiggins Might Miss Entire Season

The Golden State Warriors have been battling injuries and adversities all season long, but they are starting to get healthy again. Stephen Curry has returned to the lineup, but the Warriors have started to worry about another of their core. 

Andrew Wiggins hasn’t been in the lineup since February 14th, as he initially left the team due to some personal reasons. The Warriors haven’t really given many updates on the status of Wiggins since that time, and it’s strange that he has been away from nearly an entire month. 

NBA insiders are now reporting that Andrew Wiggins might not return all season, but there hasn’t been an update on why he has stepped away. The Warriors have announced that they are giving Wiggins space to figure some things out, but at some point, he is going to have to return if this team wants to win another championship.

Since Wiggins is not dealing with an injury, he could really make his return at any time. This is a story worth monitoring as it will have a big impact on the NBA Playoffs. 

Westbrook Moves Up on Assist List

Russell Westbrook has moved up to number nine on the NBA all-time assists leaderboard, passing up Hall of Famer Isaiah Thomas. Westbrook dished out his 9,062nd assist of his career on Saturday, and he is now sitting right behind Oscar Robertson. 

It’s unclear if Westbrook will be able to track down Robertson as the NBA legend ended his career with 9,887 assists throughout his career. Westbrook is averaging over 8.4 assists per game over his career and is the NBA’s all-time leader in triple-doubles. 

Westbrook is now a member of the Los Angeles Clippers, and this is his fifth different team from his 15-year career. He is no longer the go-to playmaker for the Clippers, but he is still capable of having a huge night. 

Brown Matches Adelman’s Mark in Sacramento

The Sacramento Kings are on the verge of clinching a playoff berth for the first time in 16 years, and they just recently won their 40th game of the season. Getting to 40 wins is extremely significant and allowed head coach Mike Brown to match a coaching legend with the team. 

Brown is now just the second coach in the history of the Kings franchise to guide the team to at least 40 wins in a season. This is the third NBA franchise that Brown has led throughout his career, and he was also an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors.
