NBA News For March 17th, 2023 | The Dunkel Index

17 March 2023 By Tyler Vaysman

It’s been a busy few days around the NBA, and there are a number of news stories that could affect the league this season and beyond. While most teams are trying to make one final playoff push, other news stories are impacting other teams.

The NBA tends to take a backseat to college basketball during the month of March, but news doesn’t stop for this league. Here is a look at three of the biggest NBA news stories that have taken place over the last few days.

Jordan Looking to Sell Hornets

The Charlotte Hornets could soon have a new owner as Michael Jordan is looking to sell his majority stake in the team. This news came as a shock to many among the NBA as Jordan had not previously been interested in selling.

Rick Schnall is leading the group to buy the majority stake in the Hornets, and he is familiar with the franchise in Charlotte. Schnall is currently the minority owner of the team, and he also holds a similar role with the Atlanta Hawks.

If this deal were to be completed, it would end a 13-year run as majority owner of the franchise in Charlotte by Jordan.

Ball Could Miss Another Season

The Chicago Bulls could be without point guard Lonzo Ball for another season as he is slated to have another surgery on his injured knee. Ball has already been shut down for the 2022-23 season, but the pain in his knee never subsided.

This will be the third surgical procedure in a span of 14 months on the left knee of Ball, and this decision was made after a number of different consultations. Ball will have a cartilage transplant on his left knee, and the team has simply announced that he is out indefinitely.

The Bulls and Ball have grown extremely frustrated with the previous surgeries, and they are giving it one final chance to get back on the floor. Chicago is willing to work with Ball and his group on this new surgery, but at some point they need him back on the floor.

Green Facing Suspension

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is facing a suspension from the NBA after receiving his 16th technical foul this season. This is nothing new for Green, but it’s going to impact the Warriors moving forward.

This will be a one game suspension without pay for Green, and he is set to serve his suspension on Friday night against the Atlanta Hawks. Green got his 16th technical of the season on Wednesday night after appearing to throw a basketball at a member of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Green believed that the technical would get rescinded by the league, but that wasn’t the case after it was reviewed. The league does take a look at every technical foul that is called, and it does take technicals away for various reasons.

The Warriors now have to make sure that Green will refrain from getting more technicals as two more would earn him another suspension.
