Montreal Canadiens at Vegas Golden Knights Betting Preview
16 June 2021

Montreal has been a massive surprise up to this point, but the Canadiens are really big underdogs in this series. The Canadiens suffered a 4-1 loss in the series opener and are looking to get back on track.
Vegas has now won five straight postseason games, and they have looked flawless in every win. The Golden Knights are the betting favorite to win the title and want to take a 2-0 series lead.
The Vegas Golden Knights are -257 in Game 2 of this best-of-seven series.
Montreal Must Score
If the Canadiens are going to even up this series, then they must find a way to create more offense. Scoring just one goal is not going to get it down, but they are facing the top defensive team in the league.
Tyler Toffoli leads the team with four goals and seven assists in the postseason, and he needs to spark the team. Montreal does have some veteran presence, and they have battled through adversity in the playoffs already.
If the Canadiens can’t score, then it will be up to Carey Price to take things over and get this team back in the series. The veteran goaltender has stopped 93 percent of shots in the playoffs but struggled in Game 1 against an explosive Vegas attack.
Golden Knights Shutting Things Down
Vegas allowed just 2.18 goals per game this season, and they have been just as good in the playoffs. The Golden Knights have a pair of dominant goaltenders, but it’s been a team effort on defense.
Marc-Andre Fleury has given up just 1.84 goals so far in the playoffs, and he shut down the Canadiens in the series opener. His strong play allows the Golden Knights to take some chances on offense.
William Karlsson leads the team with 12 points in these playoffs, but this team has plenty of scoring depth. The Golden Knights can strike quickly, and they can also score with any of the four forward lines.
Vegas Victorious Again
Montreal has not been a great offensive team this season, and that is going to hurt them in this series. The Canadiens entered this series with some momentum, but that’s not enough to take down a team like Vegas.
This feels like the best chance the Golden Knights have of winning the Stanley Cup, and they are just seven wins away. The Golden Knights aren’t going to lose focus, and that’s a problem for the Canadiens.
Montreal just doesn’t have the talent to match up with Vegas, and they lose a second straight game on Wednesday. Bet the Vegas Golden Knights -1.5 as they win this game by at least two goals to take a 2-0 series lead.
