Montreal Canadiens at Toronto Maple Leafs Betting Preview

06 May 2021

The Toronto Maple Leafs host the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night to resume one of the best rivalries in all of sports. Montreal came away with a 3-2 win over Toronto in the most recent meeting, and the visitors are hoping for the same result.

The Canadiens have gone 4-2 in their last six games, and they need all of the wins that they can get as the season winds down. Montreal currently sits in fourth place in the North but are just two points out of third place.

Toronto leads the North Division with 72 points on the year, and they should remain in that position heading into the postseason. The Maple Leafs had their five-game winning streak snapped in that loss to Montreal.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are big favorites at -201 over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night.

Montreal Needs Some Offense

Montreal has a negative goal differential this season, but the Canadiens have started to turn things around of late. The Canadiens are scoring 2.79 goals per game while allowing 2.81 goals on the other end of the ice.

Tyler Toffoli leads the Canadiens with 28 goals and 42 points on the year, while defenseman Jeff Petry has a team-high 28 assists. These two players continue to lead the charge, but Montreal needs more players to step up.

The Canadiens were able to slow down the pace of the game in the last matchup with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and it will take a similar effort in this one.

Toronto Wants to Play Fast

The Toronto Maple Leafs want to play extremely fast, and they want to take some chances on the offensive end of the ice. Toronto is scoring 3.3 goals per game, but they are also giving up more than 2.6 goals per game.

Auston Mattews leads the team with 39 goals this season, and he is one of the top players in the National Hockey League. Mitchell Marner has a team-high 46 assists and 64 points, and these two stars continue to set the tone for Toronto.

The Maple Leafs were unable to really solve Montreal in their last matchup, and they will likely be looking to push the tempo on Thursday.

Canadiens Come Away With Win

Toronto should finish the regular season on top of the North Division, and there just isn’t much to play for at this time. The Maple Leafs want to stay healthy before the playoffs, and that will be their biggest concern on Thursday night.

Montreal wants to find a way to avoid Toronto in the first round of the playoffs, and picking up a win on Thursday will help that cause. Look for the Canadiens to play an inspired brand of hockey, and they will find just enough offense.

The Canadiens will be the much more motivated team on Thursday night, and that should give them the edge over the Maple Leafs. Bet the Montreal Canadiens money line as they pull off the upset over the Maple Leafs in Toronto.
