MLB Spring Training Picks

The defending-champion Atlanta Braves are already dealing with the loss of Freddie Freeman to free agency and now it looks like they may have to play at least the first month of the regular season without OF Ronald Acuna Jr. Acuna tore his ACL midway through last season and his rehab is taking longer than he or the Braves had hoped.

Manager Brian Snitker ruled him out of any spring action yesterday, even as a DH. The rest of the Atlanta lineup will continue its preparation for the regular season with a spring game today against the Tampa Bay Rays. First pitch is 1:05 p.m. ET at CoolToday Park.

Without Acuna in the lineup, the Braves have started out 3-1 in the Grapefruit League following yesterday’s 4-0 win over the Twins. The Rays are still looking for their first spring victory after dropping to 0-4 with yesterday’s 4-2 loss to the Red Sox.

Dunkel has the Rays favored in this one with a rating of 15.621 compared to the Braves’ rating of 14.862. Dunkel projects the run total to be at 5.
