MLB Spring Training Picks

The Padres are hoping to overcome the loss of Fernando Tatis Jr. for a good chunk of the season due to a broken wrist and look to be doubling down on their pitching staff after acquiring starter Sean Manaea from Oakland yesterday.

Manaea went 11-10 last year for the A’s with a 3.91 ERA in 32 starts. He also struck out a career-high 194 batters. The 30-year-old left-hander joins a rotation that is already flush with talent, including Yu Darvish and Blake Snell.

Entering the final week of spring training, the Padres will face the Texas Rangers in a Cactus League game today. First pitch is 4:05 pm ET at Surprise Stadium.

San Diego comes in with a 6-8 spring record following yesterday’s 8-2 loss to the A’s, while the Rangers  improved to 9-5 with their 13-2 win over the Brewers.
