MLB Rankings: Dodgers Making a Run
05 July 2021

This is the final week of baseball before the 2021 MLB All-Star Game, and the playoff races are starting to heat up in each division. The best race appears to be in the National League West Division, where there are three teams competing for that top spot.
The San Francisco Giants continue to have a slight lead on the rest of the field, and the Giants remain in the top spot on the latest Dunkel MLB rankings. The Los Angeles Dodgers have climbed up into the number two spot, and the gap between these teams continues to get smaller.
The Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros check into the number three and four spots, respectively, and these teams look like the clear leaders in the American League. Both teams were expected to be better this season, but it is a shock to see them at the top of the AL at the midway point.
One of the biggest jumps in the past week was made by the Milwaukee Brewers, and they are now 5th on the latest list of rankings. Milwaukee completed a three-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs last week, and they have built up a huge lead in the National League Central Division.
The San Diego Padres are now in 6th place on the latest rankings, but they remain in third place in the NL West. San Diego is going to have to fight to earn a final spot in the NL Playoffs, despite being one of the top teams in the Dunkel rankings.
Yankees, Cubs Continue to Tumble
The New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs continue to struggle to play solid baseball, and each team has really tumbled in the rankings. New York is now 15th on the latest rankings and the Cubs check-in at 17th.
For the Cubs, this team has now lost nine straight games, and they have gone from first place to third place in a less than two weeks. The Cubs will continue to tumble in the coming weeks as this team is set to begin trading pieces away.
The Yankees still have a chance to turn the season around, but they are going to need a big second half of the season. There are three teams in the AL East that are ahead of the Yankees in the latest version of the rankings.
AL Central Teams Slipping Near Bottom
The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to be in the last place in the latest Dunkel MLB rankings, and they are pretty secure in that spot. Being in the last place on these rankings is not a good position to be in, but it does appear that Arizona will have the inside track to the number 1 pick in the 2022 MLB Draft.
The Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates are the two teams that are threatening to take over the last spot in the Dunkel rankings, but it will take some work to catch the Diamondbacks. All three teams have suffered long losing streaks at times this season, and each team is going to be selling off some pieces this month.
