Milwaukee Brewers at Philadelphia Phillies Betting Preview/Prop Picks

24 April 2022

Sunday Night Baseball heads to Philadelphia on Sunday as the Phillies host the Milwaukee Brewers in the series finale. These two teams have split the first two games in the series, and the rubber match on Sunday night should be a terrific battle.

Milwaukee was expected to win the NL Central Division this season, and they have looked like that team over the past week. The Brewers have now won four of their last five games to improve to 9-6 on the year.

Philadelphia is hoping to contend in the tough NL East Division, but things haven’t gone well for the Phillies this season. The Phillies have gone just 2-3 in their last five games, and they are now just 6-9 on the year.

The Philadelphia Phillies are the betting favorites on Sunday Night Baseball at -156 on the moneyline.

Brewers Need Bats to Wake Up

The Milwaukee Brewers are hitting just .209 as a team this season, and they need to find more offense as the season moves along. Milwaukee needs their stars like Christian Yelich to get going, but it just hasn’t happened up to this point.

Pitching continues to carry the Brewers as that staff has pitched to a team ERA of just 3.50. Milwaukee will give up some home runs, but they just don’t allow opposing teams to string hits together.

Eric Lauer will be on the mound on Sunday night, and he is 1-0 with a 3.48 ERA this season. If Lauer can deliver a quality start, then the bullpen should take care of the rest.

Nola Needs to Dominate

The Phillies have had trouble getting outs all season long, but they will have one of their top arms on the mound in this game. Philadelphia has a team ERA of nearly 5.00 this season, and that just won’t get the job done.

Aaron Nola has gotten off to a rough start in 2022, and the Phillies need him to deliver every five days. Nola is just 1-2 with a 5.52 ERA, but this is a lineup that he should be able to dominate.

Kyle Schwarber has blasted four home runs already for the Phillies, and there are some big bats in the middle of this lineup. Nick Castellanos sports a .321 batting average to lead the team, but the Phillies need to find a way to string hits together.

Brewers Beat the Phillies

If Milwaukee is able to grab a lead by the sixth inning, then the game is likely over as that bullpen just continues to shut the door. Even though the Brewers don’t have an offensive lineup that looks great on paper, they just continue to find ways to score runs.

Aaron Nola has not been pitching well for the Phillies this season, and Philadelphia needs him to dominate games to give them a chance to win. The Phillies have some big bats in the middle of the lineup, but they just haven’t been able to put it all together this season.

Don’t expect a ton of offense on Sunday night, and that is perfectly fine with the Milwaukee Brewers. Bet the Milwaukee Brewers moneyline as they take care of business on Sunday night to win the series over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Prop Picks

Philadelphia (-135) UNDER 4.5 Runs

Milwaukee is giving up 3.85 runs per 9 innings on defense, which ranks No. 14 in the league, while allowing teams to hit .219, which ranks No. 9. Scores have gone UNDER in eight of the Brewers’ last 11 games following a win (Milwaukee is coming off a 5-3 victory last night).

With Dunkel predicting a Milwaukee victory by the score of 4-3, take the Phillies (-135) to finish UNDER their Vegas team total of 4.5 runs against the Brewers.

Eric Lauer (+105) OVER 5.5 Strikeouts

Philadelphia is averaging just 8.31 strikeouts per 9 innings on offense, which ranks No. 12 in the league. Milwaukee pitching is averaging 9.41 strikeouts per 9 innings, which ranks No. 10 in the league.

With Dunkel predicting a Brewers victory with the final score staying UNDER the Vegas run total, take Lauer (+105) to finish OVER 5.5 strikeouts versus Philadelphia.
