Michigan Wolverines vs Iowa Hawkeyes Big Ten Championship Betting Preview

03 December 2021

Saturday, December 04th Michigan Wolverines @ Iowa Hawkeyes

In one of the biggest college football championships, the Michigan Wolverines take on the Iowa Hawkeyes. It’s the Big Ten Championship, No.2 Michigan faces No.13 Iowa in a game that is sure to be entertaining.

The Wolverines come into this game heavily favored, but some doubt that they can pull off a win like this. However, we think this is a much different Wolverines team.

The Iowa Hawkeyes are 10.5-point underdogs but are ready for the challenge. Their ten-game history against the Wolverines has them tied at 5-5. If the Hawkeyes win, they’ll take the Big Ten Championship and likely kick the Wolverines out of playoff contention.

There’s no denying the Hawkeyes talent, but how will they match up against the Wolverines, especially in this game.

Michigan Wolverines Preview: Time to prove they belong

Sure, the Wolverines have had an incredible season, finishing 11-1 before this game. Their biggest win of the year was their most recent win over Ohio State.

They dismantled the Buckeyes 42-27, in what was their biggest game of the year, until now. The Michigan Wolverines are once again being asked to put on a show for their fans on Saturday.

The best part about the Wolverines is how well-rounded they are on offense. They average 226.3 yards through the air and 224.9 yards on the ground, ninth in the NCAAF.

This versatility allows their offense to be diverse in its playcalling. Of course, if a drive doesn’t go their way, they still have one of the best defenses in college football. A defense that allows only 17.2 ppg.

Iowa Hawkeyes Preview: Ready to embrace the underdog story

The Hawkeyes are actually pretty similar to the Michigan Wolverines. The only real difference is their mediocre offense. It’s not necessarily awful, but they could be a lot better.

Their defense is nearly identical to the Wolverines, though, allowing just 17.3 points per game. They’ll look to rely heavily on this defense when they face off against Michigan. The question is, will it hold up?

Without a strong offense to capitalize on defensive stops, the Hawkeyes are in trouble. They only pass for an average of 177.9 and rush for 121.2 yards per game. Their average points per game are 25.7, which is respectable, but nothing compared to Michigan’s 37.5.

We believe the Hawkeyes offense won’t be much of a challenge for the Wolverines to overcome.

Our Pick for the Big Ten Championship between Michigan & Iowa

After taking a look at what each of these teams brings to Saturday’s game, we have to take Michigan. They’re the better offense and defense combination and have a much more versatile approach. The Hawkeyes, on the other hand, are slightly more rigid in what they can do against the Wolverines.

Against the spread, the Wolverines have a 10-2 record, one of the best in college football. Sure, 10.5 points is a lot to cover, but the Wolverines stout defense can do the job. We actually anticipate that the Wolverines will win this one by over fifteen points.

Take the team that just decimated Ohio State last week, Michigan Wolverines -10.5, OVER.
