Miami Marlins at San Diego Padres Betting Preview/Player Prop

The Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres are set to begin a three-game series in San Diego against the Padres on Monday night. Playing on the West Coast is never easy for a team in the NL East, and this entire series looks like a mismatch on paper.

Miami has been in the last place in the NL East for much of the season, and that is where they find themselves on Monday. The Marlins come into this game with a record of 47-65, and they are 20-38 away from home.

San Diego remains in third place in the NL West, but they haven’t been able to keep up with the top two teams. The Padres are still a solid 64-49 on the year, but their best route to the playoffs is through a Wild Card position.

Pitching Letting Down Marlins

Miami enters this series with a team ERA of just 3.72, but this team has struggled to get outs of late. The Marlins gave up 34 total runs in getting swept by the Colorado Rockies, and facing the Padres won’t provide much relief in this series.

Zach Thompson is making a start for Miami, and he looks like he has a bright future with the Marlins. Thompson sports a terrific 2.53 ERA on the year but has gone just 2-4 on the year.

Jesus Aguilar leads the Marlins with 79 RBIs this season, and he can do some damage against Musgrove. The Marlins did trade some key offensive pieces away at the Trade Deadline, and that will hurt the offense moving forward.

Padres Need More Power

The San Diego Padres are currently without Fernando Tatis Jr. due to injury, and that has had an effect on the offense of this team. San Diego still has some talented hitters in that lineup, but they need to find a way to hit for more power.

Manny Machado leads the team with 77 RBIs, and he has been great at delivering in the clutch for the Padres. It won’t take much offense to outscore the Miami Marlins, but hitting a home run or two could be a huge key.

Joe Musgrove is on the mound for the Padres, and that is usually a great thing for San Diego. Musgrove has gone just 7-7 on the year, but he sports a solid 2.87 ERA.

Padres Pound the Marlins

Miami got embarrassed by the Colorado Rockies over the weekend, and heading to San Diego to face the Padres isn’t going to get any easier. The Marlins do have some solid arms in the starting rotation, but that part of the team has been slumping of late.

San Diego is trying to survive life without their superstar, and this is a good chance for them to pick up some wins. The Padres have a dominant starter in Musgrove on the mound, and he will set the tone in what should be a blowout win.

Player Prop

Adam Frazier (-310) Over 0.5 Hits

While Frazier isn’t hitting at quite the clip with the Padres as he did with the Pirates (.282 average vs. .324), the newly acquired second baseman is starting to pick it up.

Yesterday against the Diamondbacks, Frazier went 3-for-4 and for the weekend series was 7-for-12 to raise his season average from .315 to .322. He continues to lead all of baseball in hits with 136.

And he’s certainly kept that up against the Marlins this year as he’s hitting .353 (6-for-17) against Miami pitching coming into tonight.

With the Pads trying to stay within reach of the Giants and Dodgers in the West, we’ll look for Frazier (-310) to keep the hit parade going against the Marlins and pick up at least one hit.
