Mexico Open 2023 Betting Preview
26 April 2023

The 2023 Mexico Open will take place this weekend at Vidanta Vallarta Golf Course, and this is the national tournament of Mexico. This is a stop on the PGA Tour, but it’s not one that most of the big golfers tend to make.
The Mexico Open only became a stop on the PGA Tour last year, and it should start to attract more of the bigger names in the future. This course has a par-71, and you should expect to see some pretty good scores from most of the golfers in the field this weekend.
Jon Rahm is the current defending champion at the Mexico Open, and you will also find that he is a big favorite in 2023 as well.
A Look at the Favorites
You will typically see a handful of golfers separate from the pack and become the group of betting favorites for each golf tournament. That’s not really the case this year, as the pre-tournament odds show that there are just two betting favorites this weekend.
- Jon Rahm +240
- Tony Finau +750
As you can see, Rahm is a massive favorite to win this weekend in Mexico, and you rarely see odds like that. Tony Finau is the other big name set to tee it up, and he is seen as the biggest threat to Rahm and his quest at another title.
This doesn’t mean that either of these golfers are guaranteed to win, but that’s what sportsbooks are projecting.
Plenty of Strong Contenders
Just like with any other golf tournament, you have to take a close look at all of the odds before making a final decision. The Mexico Open might not have as many big names entered as some other tournaments, but there will still be plenty of competition.
Here is a look at the odds for some of the top contenders that will be playing this weekend in Mexico:
- Wyndham Clark +1800
- Gary Woodland +2500
- Nicolai Hojgaard +2800
- Patrick Rodgers +2800
- Byeong Hun An +3500
- Beau Hossler +4000
- Maverick McNealy +4000
- Stephan Jaeger +4000
- Aaron Rai +4500
- Alex Noren +4500
There are a lot of relatively unknown golfers on this list, but you are going to see several of them near the top of the leaderboard at some point. Betting against the two big favorites won’t be easy, but you could get a nice payday if one of these golfers picked up a win.
Finau Keeps Rahm From Repeating
Strange things can happen during a golf tournament, and there are several players that will be looking to make a name for themselves down in Mexico. There will be some surprising names on the leaderboard at times during the event, but the names at the top will be pretty well known.
This is going to come down to Rahm and Finau, as they are just simply more skilled than the rest of the golfers in the field. Look for those two golfers to be battling it out on Sunday, but there won’t be a repeat winner of this event.
Bet Tony Finau +750 as he is able to outduel Jon Rahm to come away with the victory at the Mexico Open.
