Indiana Pacers at Phoenix Suns Betting Preview/Prop Pick

22 January 2022

The Indiana Pacers have put together an impressive string of wins lately. Perhaps even more impressive is that it's been on the road. It began with a huge win over the Lakers and then an even bigger one against the Warriors.

For a team that's only 17-29 this season, the Pacers have played remarkably lately. Unfortunately, they're set for a head-on collision with the No.1 Suns.

The Phoenix Suns have the best record in the entire NBA at 35-9. They have a three-game lead on the second-place team in the Western Conference. Let's not forget that the Suns are on a five-game winning streak.

They've taken down the Mavericks, Spurs, Pistons, Pacers, and Raptors during that streak. They can put the icing on the cake with one more win over Indiana.

Indiana Pacers: Won't let injuries stop them from performing

Regardless of how this game turns out, we have to give the Pacers some credit. Indiana was missing its starting backcourt and Damontas Sabonis when they faced the Warriors.

This 121-117 victory over the No.2 team in the Western Conference definitely boosted morale. This revamped Pacers team will need all the energy they can get as they take on Paul and the Suns.

For the Pacers to stay competitive in this game, there are three players they need to stick to. Chris Paul, Devin Booker, and Mikal Bridges are arguably the Suns' best players.

The Suns will be without Deandre Ayton again, so keep that in mind as well. The Pacers, on the other hand, could get Malcolm Brogdon and Caris Lavert back. If they do, it'll be a big help to their offense.

Phoenix Suns: Returning home after a five-game road stretch

First off, let's say how remarkable it is that the Suns completed a 5-0 road stretch. Traveling between different states over the course of five games and going undefeated is incredible.

All of these wins have them in complete control of the Western Conference. It's not much of a surprise, though; the Suns have the third-best scoring offense in the NBA (112.45 ppg).

Now they get to return home and face a familiar foe. They just played against the Pacers four games ago and easily won 112-94. Considering the injuries dealt to the Pacers, a similar outcome could be on the horizon.

There isn't much Phoenix needs to do to win this game aside from playing at their own pace. Indiana will look to slow the game pace; Phoenix can't allow that.

Our pick for the Indiana Pacers at Phoenix Suns

This is going to be a tough game for Indiana to pull off. They're going against one of the best offenses in the NBA and have a 5-17 record on the road.

Against the spread this season, the Pacers have gone 23-22-1, just over .500. Their last win over the Suns was in March of 2021, making their chances of winning this even slimmer.

The Suns have a pretty strong record against the spread at 25-19. However, they're only 11-11 ATS at home. While their dominance at home is undeniable, 17-5 this season, their ability to cover is different.

That being said, we'll take the Pacers +12 to cover the spread on the road.

DunkelIndex Free Pick: Indiana Pacers +12, OVER

Prop Pick

Indiana (-115) OVER 103.5 Points

The Pacers are averaging 108.3 points per game, including 105.5 points per game on the road. That average has increased over their last 3 games to 121.7 points per game. Indiana has gone over in 20 of its last 27 Saturday games.

With Dunkel predicting a Phoenix win by the score of 218-210, take the Pacers (-105) to finish OVER their Vegas team total of 103.5 points against the Suns.
