Dunkel Pick: Indiana (+12); Over
The 2022-23 NBA season is rolling right along, and there are plenty of games on the schedule on Monday night. The Philadelphia 76ers host the Indiana Pacers in one of those games, and this is a matchup of two teams that are desperate for a win.
Indiana comes into this game with a record of 1-2, and they are not expected to be a playoff contender this season. The Pacers do come into this game with some momentum after beating the Detroit Pistons in their most recent game.
Philadelphia has been a mystery this season, as they have yet to pick up a win through three games. The 76ers were supposed to be one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, but they have yet to figure things out.
The 76ers are a massive favorite in this game, as the spread is set at 12.0 points.
Pacers Must Play Defense
If the Indiana Pacers are going to find a way to turn the season around, then they are going to have to start getting some stops. Even in the win over the Detroit Pistons, Indiana gave up 115 points in that matchup.
The offensive numbers for the Pacers have been impressive through three games, but it’s hard to see that continuing as the season moves along. Indiana has scored at least 107 points in all three games and have scored at least 124 in each of the last two matchups.
Tyrese Haliburton is off to a big start with the Pacers this season, as he leads the team with 25.7 points per game. The Pacers don’t have a ton of size, but they have plenty of perimeter talent.
Sixers Struggling to Score
The Philadelphia 76ers are loaded with talent, but that hasn’t translated into many points to begin the year. After scoring 117 points in the season opener, the Sixers have scored just 88 and 105 points in their last two games.
Joel Embiid is leading the team with 27 points per game, but he is shooting just 45 percent from the floor. The Sixers are going to need to shoot the ball well from deep in an effort to give Embiid room to operate inside.
Philadelphia has been a solid defensive team to begin the year, but at some point, it’s going to take a better offensive attack to win games.
Sixers Win Tight Battle
It has been a miserable start for the Sixers this season, but they should still be one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference at some point. Indiana is not a team that is going to be in the playoff race as the season moves along, and this is a tough matchup for them.
Joel Embiid is going to have to take control for the Sixers in this game, and he should be able to dominate against a smaller Pacers team. Indiana just doesn’t have the size to pull off this upset, but they are scrappy enough to keep this game close.
Take the 12 points and back the Pacers on Monday night, but it will be the Philadelphia 76ers that come away with the win.
Prop Picks
Indiana (-125) OVER 107.5 Points
Indiana is averaging 121.7 points per game on offense this season. Scores have OVER in nine of the Pacers’ last 10 games overall.
With Dunkel predicting a Philadelphia win by the score of 125-120, take the Pacers (-125) to finish OVER their Vegas team total of 107.5 points versus the Sixers.
James Harden (-130) OVER 22.5 Points
Harden is averaging 26.0 points per game this season, which ranks No. 15 in the NBA. Indiana is allowing 122.0 points per game on defense, which ranks No. 27 in the NBA.
With Dunkel predicting the final score going OVER the Vegas total, take Harden (-130) to finish OVER 22.5 points against the Pacers.
