PGA: Houston Open Betting Preview

The PGA Tour shifts to the next event in Texas this week for the Houston Open. This will be the final tour event before the Masters. 

With that being said, this event is a mixed bag in terms of top-level talent, with players wanting to either rest or gain some momentum before playing the Masters. 

The Houston Open will be played at Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston. The total purse for this year’s Houston Open is at $7 million, with $1.26 million guaranteed to the winner of this event.

Betting Overview

The world No. 1, Dustin Johnson, is back on top of the odds board after having to take time off for several weeks due to a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. It also was difficult to jump back in with the way the schedule has been lately. 

Lanto Griffin comes in as the defending Houston Open champion with some surprising odds. He played well with a 14-under par in 2019 to win the tournament by one stroke. However, he has been on and off a lot of odds boards in the top 10.

Tony Finau (-8.407)

The 17th-ranked world golfer has been somewhat inconsistent lately with his level of play. His scoring average is not far from Johnson’s, coming in at 68.953. 

Finau has only one top 10 appearance so far this year. Last year, he had seven top 10 finishes, with a few almost being winners. 

Francesco Molinari (-12.856)

Molinari has been a fan favorite for betting odds lately for bettors that want a huge payday. Indeed, he is being cast as the dark horse for this event. As the 81st-ranked golfer with a scoring average at 71.909, he will need to be in top form here. 

He placed fifth at the Masters in 2019 and has had some decent rounds since then. However, he has not performed well of late.
