Green Bay Packers at San Francisco 49ers Betting Preview/Player Prop

26 September 2021

The San Francisco 49ers host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football to wrap up a full slate of NFL games on Sunday. These two teams figure to be in the playoff picture this season, and this could be a potential postseason preview.

Green Bay comes into this game with a record of 1-1, and they have been a tough team to figure out. The Packers were blown out by the New Orleans Saints in Week 1, but then took care of business in Week 2 against Detroit.

San Francisco has gotten off to a perfect 2-0 start on the year, but they have played in a pair of tough games. The NFC West Division is extremely tough this season, and San Francisco has to keep winning games.

The San Francisco 49ers are 3.5-point favorites over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football.

Defense Letting Down Packers

The Green Bay Packers continue to have some issues on the defensive side of the ball, and the secondary has been a real problem in 2021. Green Bay is allowing 338.0 yards per game, and they have been burned by plenty of pass plays this season.

The offense got rolling in the Week 2 win over Detroit, but things weren't as easy in the season opener. Running back, Aaron Jones had four touchdowns in the win over the Lions, but Green Bay is averaging less than 70 rushing yards per game.

Aaron Rodgers has struggled a bit to begin the year, but he is always capable of putting the Packers on his back. If Green Bay can give their star QB some time to operate, then the Packers will have a chance.

San Francisco Wants to Run

San Francisco is averaging 124 rushing yards per game this season, but they are capable of even more yards on the ground. The 49ers want to win the time of possession battle, and they do that by running the football consistently.

Jimmy Garoppolo has thrown for 503 yards and two touchdowns this season, but rookie Trey Lance will get some playing time on Sunday as well. San Francisco won't take many deep shots down the field, but there are some holes against Green Bay.

The 49ers' defense has given up nearly 400 yards of offense per game so far this season, but that unit will be able to get some pressure on Rodgers in this matchup.

49ers Take Care of Business

Green Bay is going to need a monster game from the offense to pick up this win, but they are facing an aggressive defense. The Packers are dealing with a number of injuries, and Aaron Rodgers isn't going to have much protection in this one.

The 49ers are going to find some gaps in the Packers' defense on Sunday, and that will allow them to keep drives alive. San Francisco can't win this game in a shootout, but they have a style of play that works in most situations.

Aaron Rodgers will keep his team in this game, but the Packers just don't have enough talent to hang in this game for four quarters. Bet the San Francisco 49ers -3.5 as they take control of this game and cruise to a win on Sunday night.

Player Prop

George Kittle (-128) Over 61.5 Receiving Yards

Kittle is slowly working his way back from an injury-filled 2020 season and his numbers are not where you’d expect them to be.

Thus far, the former All-Pro tight end has caught just eight balls for 95 yards through the first two games, including just four for 17 yards last week against the Eagles.

But if Niners fans are looking for a break out performance, the Packers could be just the opponent. In their regular season contest back in 2019, Kittle had six catches for 129 yards and a TD in San Francisco’s 37-8 win.

And last week against the Lions, Green Bay’s defense had a hard time checking Detroit tight end T.J. Hockenson, who finished with eight catches for 66 yards and a TD.

With the 49ers dealing with a number of injuries on the offensive side of the ball, we’ll look for San Francisco to get a healthy Kittle more involved tonight and take the tight end (-128) to go over 61.5 receiving yards.
