Prior to the MLB season, few expected the Oakland A's to be position to acquire talent for a playoff stretch run. But that's exactly where the A's are with a 67-46 record (No. 4 in Dunkel's MLB Rankings) and a two-game lead over Seattle for the second AL wild card spot. To help bolster their rotation, the A's picked up Mike Fiers (7-6, 3.48) yesterday from Detroit. Fiers has been solid of late with a 2-2 record and 1.96 ERA, so Oakland is hoping he can continue that form down the road. He won't be on the mound tonight, but the A's will get a taste of playoff-caliber competition as the LA Dodgers (62-51; No. 8) come to town. In the WNBA, the Seattle Storm (22-7, No. 1 in Dunkel's WNBA Rankings) keep cruising along as they won their fourth straight against the Liberty yesterday.
