FCS Picks

The Football Championship Series (FCS) is the only football being played in the US at this time, but there are some terrific games being played. The FCS has already seen a ton of upsets, and there will likely be some more on tap this weekend.

The weather is starting to turn nicer throughout the country, and that could lead to more offense. The featured game of the week will take place in Southern Illinois as the 3-1 Salukis host the 2-1 Northern Iowa Panthers. 
Featured Game: Northern Iowa Panthers at Southern Illinois Salukis
Southern Illinois has the biggest win so far in the FCS Spring season, a blowout win over the North Dakota State Bison. The Salukis were explosive on offense in that game, but things haven’t come as easily in the other two contests.

The Northern Iowa Panthers are four-point favorites in this matchup, despite being on the road. Southern Illinois might have an impressive win over NDSU, but they will lose their second game of the season on Saturday.

Quarterback Nic Baker of SIU will be a key as he has thrown for 546 yards and three touchdowns this season. The Salukis have run the ball well this season also, but they are facing a stout defense on Saturday.

Northern Iowa will want to use their defense to take control of this game as they are averaging just 22 points per game. The Panthers will establish their rushing attack behind running back Tyler Hoosman, who should see plenty of action.

Northern Iowa is a play or two away from being undefeated this season, and they have some momentum heading into this matchup. Playing on the road in the MVFC is never an easy task, but the Panthers are the more physical team. 

The pick is the Northern Iowa Panthers -4.0 as they head into Carbondale and win this game by double-digits.
