FCS Picks/Week 3

A pair of undefeateds will take the field this afternoon as the Villanova Wildcats (2-0) host the Richmond Spiders (2-0) in a CAA showdown. Kick off is 3:30 pm ET at Villanova Stadium.

The Wildcats have outscored their opponents 102-6, after opening with a 47-3 win at Lehigh and following that last week with a 55-3 win in their home-opener against Bucknell. The offense has been led by QB Dan Smith, who ranks No. 5 in FCS pass efficiency, and RB Justin Covington, who leads the CAA in rushing at 107.5 yards per game. Head coach Mark Ferrante’s defense is second in the FCS in total defense at 114.0 yards per game.

The Spiders also took care of Lehigh, 31-3, last week after opening the season with a 38-14 victory over Howard. Head coach Russ Huesman’s squad ranks 16^th overall in total offense and 19^th in total defense.

The Wildcats won the last meeting, 35-28, in 2019 and hold a 24-13 advantage in the series, including 15-6 at home. Dunkel sees that trend continuing today with a ‘Cats victory and covering the Vegas line of 10 ½, while the final score goes over the posted total of 50 ½.
