FCS Picks/Week 2

As dominant as Alabama looked in its opener last weekend, Mercer may have topped it with a 69-0 victory over NAIA-member Point University. The two teams will get to meet today at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Game time is 4:00 pm ET.

The total points were a new school record for Mercer and was part of a 778-yard effort with 539 of those coming on the ground. But the Bears will be facing an entirely different defense from the Tide, which held Miami to just 266 yards in total offense during a 44-13 domination. And the offense looked pretty good too with new QB Bryce Young throwing for 344 yards and 4 TDs in his Alabama debut.

Nick Saban’s team will have to avoid looking ahead to next week’s showdown against Florida in Gainesville. But the Tide have more than enough to take care of the Bears today and should cover the Vegas line of 53 ½, according to Dunkel, which also has the total going over.
