The Kansas City Royals come into this game as quite large underdogs. At +282, the Royals would seem that they don’t have a chance to win this game. However, from recent performances, we’d say that they do. Kansas City has a 39-60 record this season with a 17-30 record on the road. Today, we’re going to go over how they can take down the Yankees.
The New York Yankees are 67-33, coming in at the top of the AL East. Nearing 70 wins, it’s no wonder why the Yankees are the favorites to win this game. The question is, do the Yankees have enough to take down the Royals tonight? Is there an upset on our hands and could they be caught off-guard? Let’s take a look at each team and make our pick for the night.
Kansas City Royals: A team hungry for a win over New York
One thing that could drive the Royals to a win is a hunger for victory. The team has gone 3-3 over their last six games, two of those wins were against the Tampa Bay Rays. There are a few things that the Royals can do well but pitching isn’t one of them. Getting the start tonight is Kris Bubic, who is 2-6 as a starter. This season, Bubic has posted an ERA of 5.53 in 68.1 innings.
At the plate, however, the Royals have performed pretty well. This season the team has a batting average of .246, ranking 13th in Major League Baseball. They were able to put up seven runs in their win over the Los Angeles Angels as well. Considering they were able to do that all they need is an opening against New York. Unfortunately, they’re facing a very tough pitcher.
New York Yankees: Yankees can’t underestimate Kansas City
The one thing that could hurt any team is believing that you’ve got a game won. The Yankees are capable of losing to even some of the worst teams. For example, not long ago the Yankees suffered a series loss to the Cincinnati Reds. Although the Reds might have a few better pitchers than the Royals, the teams are similar. The Yankees can’t let that happen tonight.
Tasked with making sure it doesn’t is Gerrit Cole, who is 9-3 this season. Cole has an ERA of 3.09 over the span of 119.1 innings. With Cole on the mound, the Yankees have a great chance of winning this game. However, that chance doesn’t mean they’re a 100% lock. The good news is they have the batters to back up Cole should he get in trouble.
Kansas City Royals at New York Yankees Betting Pick
After looking at each of these teams, it might be a shocker but we’ll take the Kansas City Royals. Kansas City desperately needs to win a game and from that desperation, tenacity will follow. They’ll need to be good at the plate tonight and wait out Gerrit Cole. If they can avoid the Yankees running up the score, they should be able to win this game.
The New York Yankees are easily one of the best, if not the best team in MLB. However, even the best teams have to take losses occasionally. Along with taking the Royals at +282, we’ll also take the under in this game.
