Detroit Pistons at Chicago Bulls Betting Preview

11 January 2022

Tuesday, January 11th Detroit Pistons @ Chicago Bulls

Two teams from the Eastern Conference battle it out on Tuesday night in United Center. The Detroit Pistons, second to last in the conference, face off against the first-place Chicago Bulls.

The spread in this game should be no shock as the Pistons are 9-30 on the season. However, the real question is whether the Pistons can pull off an upset at the sportsbook this weekend.

The Chicago Bulls are in control of the Eastern Conference with a 26-11 record. However, they’re coming off a recent loss to the Dallas Mavericks, proving they’re beatable.

This isn’t to say that the Pistons are the better team here, but that the Bulls have faults. Covering a 13.5-point spread could be tough. Let’s go over what they’ll need to do to pull it off on Tuesday.

Detroit Pistons: Perhaps there is more to Detroit than we thought

In their most recent game, the Detroit Pistons beat the Utah Jazz, 126-116. The Pistons might have a bad record, but they’re capable of taking down big teams.

Before that game, they beat the Orlando Magic, the last-place team in the Eastern Conference. Although they come in as 13.5-point underdogs, the Pistons can win by slowing down the Bulls stellar offense.

Of course, with Zach Lavine and DeMar DeRozan, this won’t be an easy task to complete. The Pistons are missing Jeremi Grant, the player that would’ve been responsible for guarding one of them.

With Grant out, the Pistons will have a hard time limiting the Bulls open looks at the rim. However, Cade Cunningham has been electric for Detroit, and they’ll look to him on Tuesday.

Chicago Bulls: Coming off a loss, the Bulls look to bounce back

It was a pretty tough loss that the Chicago Bulls suffered to the Dallas Mavericks. Leading up to that point, the Bulls had won nine straight games and was going for a tenth.

Now, the streak will have to start all over for Chicago. Taking on the Pistons might seem like a favorable game, but we saw what Detroit did to the Jazz. The Bulls will hope not to fall into the same trap tonight.

Chicago has the 8th highest-scoring offense in the NBA, averaging 110.92 points per game. However, their defense gives up an average of 107.57 points per game, ranking 14th.

With such a narrow margin between the two, it’s hard to see them covering the 13.5-point spread. Especially since the Bulls have gone 1-4 against the spread in their last five games this season.

Our pick for the Detroit Pistons at the Chicago Bulls

Watching the Pistons' performance against the Jazz weighs heavily on this decision. We know they haven’t done well against Chicago in the past, but this time is different.

They’ve also gone 4-2 against the spread in their last six games, which definitely helps. Although the Pistons likely won’t win this game, we think they can keep it within 13.5.

Another reason we’re taking the Pistons is because of how the Bulls have performed against the spread lately. They’ve gone 1-4 ATS in their last five games, and their defense gives up a ton of points per game. Surprisingly enough, the safe bet here is the team with a 9-30 record.
