Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers Betting Preview/Player Prop

Week 2 of the NFL season wraps up with a matchup between the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers. These are longtime rivals in the NFC North Division, but it's hard to see this game being very competitive in 2021.

Detroit suffered a 41-33 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1, but the Lions actually rallied late in that game. The Lions are projected to finish in the last place in the NFC North Division, and there are plenty of holes on this roster.

Green Bay took on the New Orleans Saints in Week 1, and things couldn't have gone worse for the Packers in Week 1. The offense failed to score a touchdown in the loss, and the defense allowed a number of big plays against the New Orleans Saints.

The Green Bay Packers are 10.5-point betting favorites over the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football.

Rodgers Need to Lead Packers

Aaron Rodgers is the reigning MVP of the National Football League, but he really struggled in the season opener. Rodgers threw a pair of interceptions in that loss and never really got the offense moving.

The Packers need to find a way to establish the run on Monday night if they are going to give Rodgers some help. Green Bay had just 43 rushing yards in that loss, and this will be a focus moving forward.

The Packers are not going to win many games with the defense, but that unit is better than it played in Week 1. Green Bay will need to defend the pass against Detroit, but they should also be able to create some turnovers.

Lions Struggle to Get Stops

The Detroit Lions have an absolute mess on the defensive side of the football, and those issues are going to be a problem on Monday Night Football. Detroit gave up 450 yards of total offense to the 49ers, and San Francisco is not considered an explosive offensive team.

Quarterback Jared Goff threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns in Week 1, and he looked comfortable leading the Lions' offense. Detroit is going to need to score plenty of points to keep up with Green Bay, but they might have the offense capable of doing just that.

Packers Blow Out Lions

Both the Packers and Lions really struggled in Week 1, but the Packers are the much more talented team in this matchup. Green Bay is going to get a much better performance from Aaron Rodgers on Monday night, as the Packers should put up a ton of points in this matchup.

The Lions have been a problem for the Packers in recent seasons, but they just don't have the talent to compete in this game. Green Bay is looking for a bounce-back performance after struggling in the season opener, and they will get it against Detroit.

Aaron Rodgers (-136) Over 9.5 Rushing Yards

To say fans in Green Bay are worried following an ugly Week 1 loss to New Orleans is an understatement. Not only did the team lose 38-3 to the Saints, but their star QB, Rodgers, had only 133 yards passing, 2 INTs and a QB rating of just 13.6. The fact that it was coming off an ugly off-season back-and-forth with management doesn’t inspire confidence either.

But Rodgers says Packer fans (and the coaching staff) shouldn’t overreact. Perhaps that’s because he’s facing the Lions or perhaps that’s because he has won his last seven games on MNF. Either way, we will take the reigning MVP at his word and expect a bounce-back game tonight.

One of the ways to loosen up the Detroit D is to be more mobile in the pocket than he was against the Saints. While he no longer scrambles like he did in 2015 and 2016 when he had 344 and 369 yards rushing, respectively, he still projects to around 150 yards on the ground this year.

After having zero rushing yards in Week 1, we’ll take Rodgers (-136) to mix it up tonight and go over 9.5 rushing yards against the Lions.
