HighPoint.com 400 Betting Preview
21 July 2023

Martin Truex Jr. (273.409) made it look easy in New Hampshire, winning all three stages and leading the most laps to land on Victory land for a third time this season and stay atop the Drivers' Standings. Joey Logano (272.174) finished second, and Kyle Larson (272.945) finished third last weekend, with both drivers continuing their recent upswings in performance.
The Cup Series heads to Pennsylvania and the challenging tri-oval at Pocono, where Toyota has dominated for the majority of the past decade, for the HighPoint.com 400. The Dunkel Index has your expert analysis and picks for the HighPoint.com 400 from Pocono Raceway this weekend.
Toyota's Success and Favorites at Pocono
Toyota has won six of the previous eight races at Pocono, including five consecutive races from 2017-2022. Hadn't Denny Hamlin been disqualified in 2022, Toyota would have won seven of the last eight races.
With the win in New Hampshire, Martin Truex Jr. (273.409) won his second race in the previous five, having three race wins on the season. Truex Jr. has ten top-ten finishes this season, with nine coming since Bristol, while he has three top-ten finishes in the last five races at Pocono.
Denny Hamlin - Joe Gibbs Racing-Toyota
With a win in 2023, Denny Hamlin (273.270) will eclipse Bill Elliott as the winningest driver on Pocono's tri-oval, having won four previous editions (2006, 2009, 2019, 2020).
Adding to Hamlin's wins, he has finished in the top five in three of the last five races at Pocono and is in fine form this season, currently fourth in the Drivers' Standings. Hamlin has one race win and eight top-ten finishes this season after finishing seventh in New Hampshire.
Kyle Busch - Richard Childress Racing-Chevrolet
After Hamlin, Kyle Busch (271.808) is the winningest active driver at Pocono, having three race wins (2017, 2018, 2021). Busch has three top-ten finishes in the previous five races at Pocono.
Despite finishing 36th in New Hampshire, which ended a seven-race top-ten finishing streak, Busch has four top-five finishes in the previous six races. On the season, Busch has three race wins and twelve top-ten finishes.
Hendrick Motorsports-Chevorlet
Chase Elliott (270.204) received the 2022 Pocono race win after finishing third on track, giving him two top-five finishes in the previous five races at Pocono. Elliott needs to continue his strong performances to make the playoffs, having seven top-ten finishes in thirteen races this season.
Kyle Larson's (272.945) third-place finish at New Hampshire was his fifth top-five finish in the last six races. Larson has two race wins and ten top-ten finishes this season. At Pocono, Larson has two top-five finishes in the last three races.
However, it's Hendrick Motorsports' William Byron (270.204) who has taken the spotlight this season. Byron won his third race of the season in Atlanta but finished 24th in New Hampshire. Still, Byron has finished in the top five in five of the last seven races. Byron has 11 top-ten finishes this season and currently sits second in the Cup Series Driver standings.
