Fortinet Championship 2023 Betting Preview
12 September 2023

After a brief break, the PGA Tour action will pick back up this week at the Fortinet Championship at the Silverado Country Club. This tournament has been renamed several times since it was first played, but the overall action that takes place here hasn’t changed much.
The 2022-23 PGA Tour season was terrific, and now the best players in the world are getting ready to battle it out at the Ryder Cup. That doesn’t mean that some Ryder Cup participants won’t be playing this weekend, but the list of golfers is not going to be like what you would see at other points throughout the year.
Here is a look at the Fortinet Championship, and a Dunkel pick and prediction is provided as well.
Three Big Names
With the Ryder Cup taking up the attention of the best golfers in the sport, you won’t be seeing a ton of great players teeing it up this weekend. While that might be the case, a quick glance at the odds will show you that there are three big names in this event.
Max Homa comes to the Fortinet Championship as the betting favorite, and he has odds set at +700. There is a big gap between Homa and the rest of the field, and that’s not something that you normally see when checking out odds for a PGA Tour event.
The other two names are Justin Thomas and Sahith Theegala, and those are two players who have enough talent to contend with anyone else on tour. Thomas and Theegala both have odds set at +1600, and they will be trying to keep pressure on Homa for four rounds this weekend.
Any Contenders to Watch?
It’s going to be hard not to focus on the top three golfers based on the odds when trying to break down this event, but you can’t stop there. There is a pretty long list of golfers set to tee it up this weekend, and you will have a chance to find some value if you look closely enough.
There are some players in this field who are looking to make a name for themselves, and they might get that opportunity to do that this week. If you are strictly looking to bet an underdog with value, then here is where you should be looking:
- Cam Davis +1800
- Beau Hossler +2200
- J.J. Spaun +3500
- Brendon Todd +3500
- Nick Hardy +4500
- Alex Noren +4500
Thomas Takes Care of Business
There is a terrific trio of betting favorites heading into this event, and you should expect to see all three golfers in contention this weekend. Many other top players are still going to be sitting this tournament out, but that’s not the case for Homa, Thomas, and Theegala.
The way this course is set up should provide the biggest golfers in this event with a chance to do some scoring, and that will be fun to watch as they attack the course. Homa is coming into this event as the favorite, but he isn’t going to be able to get the job done.
It has been a rough year for Justin Thomas, but he is going to respond by winning this week. Take Justin Thomas at +1400 to win the Fortinet Championship on the PGA Tour.
