CFL Week 3 Betting Preview

The 2023 CFL season will continue with Week 3 beginning on Thursday, and it’s been an excellent first two weeks of the season. The Ottawa Redblacks will have a bye this week, and that will set up four terrific matchups throughout the league. 

It’s still way too early to really start focusing on the standings in each division, but things are going to be tightening up as the year moves along. Here is a look at all four Week 3 matchups, and a Dunkel pick and prediction is included as well. 

BC Lions at Winnipeg Blue Bombers

The best game of the weekend could be taking place on Thursday night as a pair of 2-0 teams meet when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers host the BC Lions. Winnipeg beat BC in the Western Final a season ago, and revenge will no doubt be on the minds of the Lions players. 

The Blue Bombers are six-point betting favorites in this game, but that’s way too large of a spread for a Lions team that has shown that it can really score. BC is led by Vernon Adams Jr., and he just looks like he is on a mission this season. 

This will be a great game, and it will be the BC Lions that come away with an upset win on the road. 

Montreal Alouettes at Hamilton Tiger-Cats

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are slim 1.5-point betting favorites on Friday as they host the Montreal Alouettes in an interesting matchup. Montreal had a bye in Week 2, but they did look pretty impressive in winning their season opener in Week 1.

Hamilton is still looking for its first win of the season, and they could be without Bo Levi Mitchell in this matchup in Week 3. The Tiger-Cats are going to be facing a Montreal team that loves to run the football, and that style is not easy to play against. 

This will be another upset as Montreal will move to 2-0 by going on the road and picking up another win. 

Saskatchewan Roughriders at Calgary Stampeders

A pair of 1-1 teams will meet up in Calgary on Saturday as the Stampeders host the Saskatchewan Roughriders in what should be a terrific game. The Roughriders have to feel like they could be 2-0 on the year after losing an offensive shootout last weekend to the Bombers. 

Calgary is a four-point betting favorite in this game, but they are a team that just hasn’t shown that they can be consistent on the offensive end. It’s going to take a great offensive effort to beat the Roughriders, and the Stampeders won’t be able to get it done. 

Take Saskatchewan with an upset win as that trend continues on through Saturday. 

Toronto Argonauts at Edmonton Elks

The Toronto Argonauts got their title defense started in a big way in Week 2 after picking up a 32-14 win. Toronto was out to prove that the championship in 2022 wasn’t a fluke, and they are big 6.5-point road favorites on Sunday. 

Edmonton just can’t seem to find a way to win on their home turf, and they are now facing an offensive juggernaut in this matchup. It’s been a frustrating start to the season for the Elks, and things are going to get worse in this one. 

Take the Argonauts -6.5 as they roll to a double-digit victory in this game.
