Cleveland Indians at Seattle Mariners Betting Preview/Player Prop

15 May 2021

The Cleveland Indians and Seattle Mariners will continue their weekend series with a matchup on Saturday night. Seattle won the opener by a score of 7-3, and they are looking to build some momentum on their home field.

Cleveland comes into this game with an overall record of 21-15, which has them in second place in the AL Central. The Indians had won four straight games heading into Friday night, and this team is starting to turn things around.

Seattle improved to 19-20 with a win on Friday, and they have actually been better than expected in 2021. The Mariners are in third place in the AL West, trailing the Oakland Athletics by 4.5 games.

The Indians are the betting favorites at -118 over the Seattle Mariners.

Pitching Impressive For Indians

Cleveland doesn’t have a ton of big names on the pitching staff, but this unit has been a major strength for the Indians. Despite giving up seven runs in the series opener, the Indians have posted a team ERA of 3.45, which is one of the top marks in all of baseball.

The offense has been very inconsistent for Cleveland, and that will need to be figured out as the season moves along. The Indians are hitting just .210 as a team, and they are near the bottom of the league in total runs scored.

Jose Ramirez and Franmil Reyes have been carrying the Indians at the plate, and both will need to hit well in this one. Ramirez leads the team with 11 home runs and Reyes has a team-high 24 RBIs.

A Star Debuts For Seattle

The Seattle Mariners put young phenom Jarred Kelenic in the lineup on Friday night, and all he did was have three extra-base hits in the win. Kelenic appears to have the ability to carry an offense, and the Indians will have to deal with him again on Saturday.

Seattle has actually been a worse offensive team than the Indians, but Mitch Haniger has been putting up big numbers. Haniger has a team-high 11 home runs and 29 RBIs and should now get some more pitches with Kelenic in the lineup.

Justus Sheffield will start for Seattle on Saturday and he is looking for better results. Sheffield has gone just 2-3 with a 4.91 ERA to begin the year.

Mariners Make It Back-To-Back

The debut of Kelenic seemed to inspire the Seattle team on Friday night, and that offense looked better than it has in weeks. Now that the future star has gotten his debut out of the way, the Mariners are going to look on building some momentum.

Expect the Mariners to continue to cool down the hot Indians and make it two straight in this series. Bet on Seattle (-107) to scratch out a win over the Tribe on Saturday night.

Player Prop

Total Hits: Jarred Kelenic (-140) Over 0.5 Hits

Mariner fans are pinning their hopes for the future on this 21-year-old rookie. He didn’t show much in his MLB debut on Thursday as he went 0-for-4.

But he rebounded last night in a big way. Kelenic made his first MLB hit a memorable one as he connected off Cleveland’s Aaron Civale for a 403-foot HR into the right field stands. And he didn’t stop there, picking up 2 more extra-base hits and 3 RBI on the night.

The M’s trade for Kelenic was already one of the most scrutinized in baseball as he was acquired in 2019 from the Mets for Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz. We expect Met fans to regret that deal again today as Kelenic (-140) stays hot goes over 0.5 hits.
