Cincinnati Reds at Chicago Cubs Betting Preview

28 July 2021

NL Central rivals are set to meet up on Wednesday night at Wrigley Field as the Chicago Cubs host the Cincinnati Reds. Each team has picked up a win so far in this series, and there has been plenty of excitement as well.

Cincinnati earned a 7-4 win on Tuesday night to improve their record to 52-49 on the season. The Reds remain in second place in the NL Central Division, but they are still seven games out of first place behind the Milwaukee Brewers.

The loss on Tuesday night dropped the Cubs to just 50-52 on the year, and it has not been a good two months for the Cubs. Chicago spent plenty of time atop the NL Central Division, but they are currently in full “sell” mode before the Trade Deadline.

The Cincinnati Reds are -112 on Wednesday night against the Chicago Cubs.

Cincinnati Can Score

The Reds are hitting .250 as a team this season, and they have scored 489 total runs in 2021. Both of those numbers have the Reds in the top-10 in baseball, and this team can put up some runs in a hurry.

Joey Votto blasted a pair of home runs in the win on Tuesday night, and he seems like he is starting to heat up at the right time. Jesse Winker has also had a big series so far for the Reds, and he leads the team with 20 home runs.

Tyler Mahle starts this game on Wednesday night, and he has put up some impressive numbers for Cincinnati. Mahle comes into this start with a 7-3 record to go along with a solid 3.92 ERA.

Davies Dealing For Cubs

Zach Davies will be on the mound for the Cubs Wednesday night, and this could be a chance to audition for another team. Davies has gone 6-6 with a 4.30 ERA this season, but several teams across baseball could be looking to pick him up in a trade.

The bullpen for Chicago has been tremendous all season long, but that unit has also lost a key piece in Andrew Chafin. There is no doubt that the Cubs are a bit distracted this week as the rumors are flying.

Anthony Rizzo has belted a first-inning home run in three straight games, and this Cubs team still has plenty of power. Chicago hit three long balls in the loss on Tuesday night, and they will look to jump on Mahle early.

Reds Pick Up Another Win

The Reds could have easily won each of the first two games of this series but were forced to settle for a split. Cincinnati is a slightly better overall team than the Cubs, and they have an edge in the pitching matchup on Wednesday night.

Both teams have been playing long ball so far this series, but look for this to be the lowest-scoring game up to this point. It’s going to take a team stringing hits together to score runs, and the Reds are better at that than the Cubs.

Cincinnati needs this win to keep the pressure on the Milwaukee Brewers, and they will get it. Bet the Cincinnati Reds -112 as they are able to pick up a one-run win over the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night.
