Getting these batters on base and scoring runs is vital to their success. It will also help if Michael Kopech has a strong game today. Kopech is 2-6 as a starter this season.
Minnesota Twins: Strong pitching is still a problem for Minnesota
When looking at what the Twins do well, pitching isn’t among these things. Allowing a team to get a 6-1 lead by the fourth inning is a recipe to lose a game. Of all the starting pitchers in the lineup, Joe Ryan leads the group with just six wins.
He also leads in strikeouts with 66 over the course of the season. The Twins need to address the pitching problem as soon as possible.
Taking the mound for the Twins today is Devin Smeltzer, who has a 4-2 record this season. Smeltzer’s ERA of 3.92 isn’t great, but at least he has a few wins under his belt.
The Twins as a team have a .254 batting average this season, ranking 7th overall. If they can pair good batting with an average outing on the mound, they should win this one.
