Chicago White Sox at Houston Astros Betting Preview/Prop Picks

19 June 2022

The final game in the MLB schedule tonight is the Chicago White Sox against the Houston Astros. The White Sox have had a tough season, but they’re right on the verge of a .500 record.

Currently, the White Sox have a record of 31-32 and have won four of their last five. Their most recent game was a 7-0 shut out of the Houston Astros. The question is, can they do it again?

The Houston Astros have a record of 40-25 and are first in the AL West. Tonight, they’ll get a chance to bounce back after suffering a tough loss. They’re well in front of the Texas Rangers, the second-place team in the AL West.

With a nine-game lead, the Astros can afford a few losses. Still, they won’t want to get into the habit of losing, especially when playing at home.

Chicago White Sox: Injuries could be a problem for Chicago

In yesterday’s game, third baseman Yoan Moncada left the game with hamstring tightness. At the moment, he’s listed as “day-to-day.” However, Moncada isn’t the only White Sox player on the injury list.

Tim Anderson, the shortstop for the team, is also on the 10-Day IL. Leury Garcia and Kyle Crick both find themselves on the injury list as well. This could mean trouble for them.

Although they did just fine against the Astros yesterday, another 7-0 win isn’t guaranteed. Tonight, the White Sox will send out Michael Kopech to the mound. Kopech has a 2-2 record this season with an impressive 1.92 ERA.

Still, with these injuries piling up, the White Sox could be in for a tough day. They’ll have to put in everything they’ve got to beat the Astros tonight.

Houston Astros: Astros will look to repeat their Game 1 success

In Game 1 of their current series against the White Sox, the Astros won 13-3. Tonight, they’ll look to recapture some of that success. With all of the injuries the White Sox have suffered, they should be able to get a win here.

However, they need to do something about the bats of the White Sox. Chicago’s batters as a group have a batting average of .252 this season.

The pitcher tasked with slowing down the White Sox is Cristian Javier, the 3-3 RHP. Javier has an ERA of 3.20 this season and has thrown 63 strikeouts.

He should do just fine against the White Sox batters tonight. The question is, can the Astros batters step it up today. They had a tough outing yesterday but have shown a lot of potential. So, who should you take tonight?

Chicago White Sox at Houston Astros Betting Pick

The White Sox have a lot of injuries heading into this game, and it will play a big part in it. Even their starting pitcher, Michael Kopech, is listed as “day-to-day.”

With their pitcher not at full strength, it’s hard to take the White Sox here. This is especially true since the Astros did beat them in Game 1 13-3.

With that being said, we’re going to advise you to take the Houston Astros -181. We’re also going to recommend that you take the under in this game as well.

We’ve seen these teams have the potential to go over, but it’s more likely for them to go under the total.

Prop Picks

Chicago White Sox (-140) UNDER 3.5 Runs

Houston is allowing 3.48 runs per 9 innings on defense, which ranks No. 3 in the league, while holding opponents to .219 batting average, which also ranks No. 3. Scores have gone UNDER in 30 of the Astros’ last 43 games as a favorite.

With Dunkel predicting a Houston victory by the score of 3-2, take the White Sox (-140) to finish UNDER their Vegas team total of 3.5 runs against Houston.

Christian Javier (+110) UNDER 1.5 Walks

Javier has given up 19 walks in 50.2 innings pitched this season. The righthander has given up only 7 walks in 27.1 innings pitched at home compared with 12 walks in 23.1 innings pitched on the road.

With Dunkel predicting an Astros home victory while holding the White Sox UNDER their Vegas team run total, take Javier (+110) to finish UNDER 1.5 walks against the White Sox.
