The Crosstown Classic is set to wrap up on Sunday night as the Chicago Cubs host the Chicago White Sox. The visiting team has won the first two games of this series, and the White Sox are now going for the rare sweep in Wrigley field.

The White Sox have built up a massive lead in the AL Central Division, but they are trying to become the top team in baseball. Chicago brings a 65-46 record into this game, and they will be a tough out in the playoffs.

The Cubs have had a disappointing 2021 season, and it led to a major sell-off at the Trade Deadline. This team is now eight games under .500 and are in 4th place in the NL Central.

The Chicago White Sox have put together an unbelievable roster, and there just aren’t any weaknesses on the team. This team has one of the best starting rotations in baseball, and the offense can do some serious damage.

Dylan Cease is scheduled to start on Sunday night, and he has gone 8-6 with a 3.92 earned run average this season. The White Sox have a trio of big arms in the bullpen, and they can protect any lead that they are given.

Jose Abreu leads the White Sox with 21 home runs and 83 RBIs, and he has been hitting well in this series. The White Sox are still working on getting healthy, but there is plenty of talent on this roster.

Future is Now For Cubs

After trading away nine players during the month of July, the Cubs are now looking ahead to the future. This lineup is now filled with rookies and other unproven veterans, and scoring runs might be a challenge the rest of the season.

Willson Contreras and Patrick Wisdom are now the offensive stars for the Cubs, and they must deliver in this game. Chicago failed to score on Saturday night and couldn’t really get much going on offense.

Zach Davies starts for the Cubs on Sunday night, and he is just 6-8 with a 4.79 earned run average. Davies will need to pitch well and set the tone for the home team in this game.

There is still some thunder in the middle of the Cubs lineup, and they should be able to score some runs against Dylan Cease. The White Sox are great when they get an early lead, but that won’t happen on Sunday night.

Tim Anderson (-490) Over 0.5 Hits

Anderson may be known more for bat flips than anything else, but it doesn’t overshadow how productive the White Sox’ shortstop has been on the field.

The 2019 AL batting champion is having another banner year that earned him his first All-Star nod in July. He leads the Chisox in runs (66), hits (116) and 2Bs (22). 

He’s been surprisingly quiet so far in the interleague series against the Cubs, following up a 1-for-6 effort on Friday with an 0-for-4 yesterday. But we don’t expect his rough August (.227 average) to continue following a consistently strong June (.300) and July (.317).

Facing Cubs righthander Zach Davies (6.66 ERA in last 5 starts) should also help as Anderson has been stronger against righties (.300 average in 290 at-bats) than against lefties (.282 average in 103 at-bats). 

In front of a national TV audience tonight, we’ll take Anderson (-490) to rise to the occasion and pick up at least one hit against Cubs pitching.
