The defending-champion Chicago Cubs didn't play like a team with much fire in the first half of the season and the results were disappointing. A 43-45 record and an offense that ranked just 14th in the NL with a .239 team average has the Cubs trailing the Brewers by 5 1/2 games in the NL Central as the second half of the season opens up tonight. Whether Joe Maddon can get his team to look more like last year's version will start to take shape in Baltimore as the Cubs open up a three-game interleague series with the Orioles.
