Chicago Cubs at San Francisco Giants Betting Pick

03 June 2021

A pair of first-place teams meet up on Thursday night in San Francisco as the Giants host the Chicago Cubs. Both teams have been much better than expected during the 2021 season, and this should be the beginning of a terrific four-game series.

Chicago comes into this game with a record of 32-23, and they have played their best baseball against the top teams in the National League. The Cubs just recently swept the San Diego Padres at Wrigley Field, but they are just 11-13 away from home this season.

San Francisco is 34-21 on the year, and they hold a slim one-game lead in the NL West Division. However, the Giants recently rattled off four straight wins, and they have been tough on their home field this season.

The San Francisco Giants are -139 in the series opener against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday night.

Offense Delivering For Cubs

Since the beginning of May, few teams in baseball have been as productive on offense as the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs have had a number of players missing games due to injury, but it has not slowed down their production at the plate.

Javier Baez has blasted 14 home runs this season while also leading the way with 38 RBIs. Kris Bryant is putting up bigger numbers than he did during his MVP campaign in 2016, and this team just wears down opposing pitchers.

The Cubs have also benefitted from a pitching staff that led baseball with an ERA of just over 2.5 in the month of May. There are very few holes on this roster, and that has allowed the Cubs to vault to the top of the NL Central.

Giants Can Really Pitch

The Giants have a team ERA of 3.38, and San Francisco has been able to slow down some pretty powerful offenses in the NL West. The starting rotation doesn’t have many big names, but it is filled with veterans who know how to get outs.

Anthony DeSclefani is one of those pitchers, and he will take the mound for the Giants on Thursday night. DeSclefani has gone 4-2 with a 3.56 ERA this season, but he will be facing a terrific lineup.

The Giants are hitting just .230 as a team, and that number will need to improve as the season moves along. Brandon Crawford leads the team with 11 home runs and 32 RBIs, and the Giants will need to score runs in this series.

Cubs Stay Red Hot

San Francisco can really pitch, but they just don’t have an offense that is capable of scoring a ton of runs. That will be a problem in this series, as the Cubs can score runs in bunches.

The Cubs will need a solid outing from Zach Davies on Thursday night, but he has been pitching well since the month of May began. If he is able to deliver a quality start, then the Cubs pitching staff should be able to do the rest.

The Giants have gotten off to a great start this season, but facing the Cubs right now is a real problem. So bet the Chicago Cubs money line over the San Francisco Giants in the series opener on Thursday night.
