Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee Brewers Betting Preview

The Milwaukee Brewers host the Chicago Cubs for Game 2 of a three-game set on Tuesday night. Milwaukee came away with a 14-4 victory in the series opener, but the game was much closer than that through the first seven innings.

Chicago has now lost four straight games, and it has been a difficult month of June for the Northsiders. The Cubs bring a 42-37 record into this game and are eight games under .500 on the road.

Milwaukee has improved to 46-33 on the year, and they are one of the hottest teams in baseball. The Brewers have built up a four-game lead in the NL Central and will look to build on that lead the rest of this series. 

The Milwaukee Brewers are the betting favorites at -210 on the money line in this matchup on Tuesday night. 

Pitching Letting Cubs Down

The Cubs have a team ERA of 3.88 this season, but that is thanks to some terrific work by the bullpen for nearly a two-month stretch. Chicago’s bullpen has blown three games during this skid, and the Cubs allowed 10 runs in the 8th inning in the series opener.

Zach Davies starts on Tuesday night and was a part of the combined no-hitter thrown by the Cubs last Thursday. Davies is 5-4 with a 4.31 ERA so far this season, and the Cubs need his best effort of the year.

Ian Happ and Patrick Wisdom each hit a pair of two-run homers on Monday night, but that was all of the offense for the Cubs. Chicago needs to find a way to string some hits together against Woodruff.

Brewers Breaking Out on Offense

Milwaukee has scored at least five runs in five of its last six games, and that has led to six straight wins. The Brewers were a bad offensive team to begin the year, but that has not been the case over the past week.

Avisail Garcia leads the Brewers with 15 home runs and 46 RBIs to go along with a .243 batting average. A trade for shortstop Willy Adames has also made this offense a much better group overall.

Brandon Woodruff starts on Tuesday night, and he is 6-3 with a 1.89 ERA so far this season. Woodruff is good enough to shut down an opposing lineup completely, but the Cubs are familiar with the ace of the Brewers. 

Cubs Snap Losing Skid

Things have not gone well for the Cubs of late, but this is still a team with plenty of talent on the roster. Chicago is going to break out of this offensive slump at some point, and they are good enough to stay in the playoff race.

Milwaukee will have its ace on the mound on Tuesday night, but Woodruff has shown some chinks the armor of late. The Brewers are going to need another great offensive performance on Tuesday night, but that still might be enough.
