Chicago Cubs at Colorado Rockies Betting Preview/Prop Pick

16 April 2022

For the third straight night, it will be the Colorado Rockies hosting the Chicago Cubs at Coors Field in Denver. Chicago picked up a win in the series opener, but the Rockies bounced back with a 6-5 win on Friday night.

The expectations for the Cubs aren’t very high this season, but this is a team that could surprise some people. Chicago is now 4-3 through their first seven games of the year but are just 2-3 in their last five.

Colorado is another team with low expectations, but they have gotten off to a great start in 2022. The Rockies are 5-2 through their first seven games, and they have won four of their last five games this season.

The Colorado Rockies are betting favorites in this game at -136 on the moneyline over the Chicago Cubs.

Pitching Must Power Cubs

The Chicago Cubs are a completely new team this season, especially when it comes to the offensive side of the diamond. Chicago has just six home runs through the first seven games, and they aren’t a team with a ton of power.

Seiya Suzuki has been a star at the plate during the first week of the season, leading the way with three home runs and 10 RBIs. The Cubs had 17 runners on base in the loss on Friday, but they just couldn’t come up with a big hit.

Mark Leiter Jr. makes the start for the Cubs on Saturday, and this will be his season debut. Leiter and the Cubs bullpen will have to pitch extremely well on Saturday night if they are going to get past the Rockies.

Cron Leading Colorado Attack

C.J. Cron belted a key home run in the win on Friday night, and that was his third long ball of the season. Former Cub Kris Bryant is hitting .379 on the season, but the Cubs have been able to keep him in check for the most part in this series.

It has been the pitching that has been the big surprise for the Colorado Rockies. Colorado has a team ERA of 3.23 this season, and they have some big arms in the bullpen.

Antonio Senzatela will be on the mound Saturday night, and he is looking for a better outing than his first start. If Senzatela can keep the ball in the yard, then his offense should be able to cover the rest.

Rockies Clip the Cubs

The Cubs came into this series and took control from the start, but the Rockies were able to get some revenge on Friday night. Colorado seems to have a clear edge in the starting pitching matchup on Saturday night, and that might be enough to come away with a win.

This Cubs team has a lineup of players that will grind out at-bats, but they just don’t have enough players that can do some damage. Colorado broke out the big bats in the win on Friday night, and it will be much of the same in this one.

Bet the Colorado Rockies -136 as they pick up a second straight one-run victory over the Chicago Cubs.

Prop Pick

Chicago Cubs (-120) UNDER 5.5 Runs

The Rockies are giving up 3.66 runs per game on defense, which ranks No. 9 in the league, while allowing an OPS of .665, which also ranks No. 9. Scores have gone UNDER in eight of Colorado’s last 11 home games.

With Dunkel predicting a Colorado home victory by the score of 4-3, take the Cubs (-120) to finish UNDER their Vegas team total of 5.5 runs against the Rockies.
